    I’m 6’5” 200 pounds and the Sitka stuff in tall sizes has been great for me. I would think it should likely work for you too even though you’re a little taller.

    Montana vs. Idaho vs. Wyoming: Best Option for New Elk Hunters?

    You said you would like to go the first half of October with rifle, so Montana would be out based on season dates. It’s unlikely to draw WY with one preference point, but certainly worth a chance. I don’t know enough about Idaho to make recommendations there.

    This year I think reservations would be highly advised, especially for Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Jackson. The later in the year you go, the better your chances, but many of the Western national parks broke monthly visitation records in May.

    I hunt the western and southwestern part of the state because that’s where I live and I focus on elk over deer. If you are strictly interested in deer I would focus more east.

    I’d go for Montana. You could hunt the last week of rifle season. Likely the best week to get a mule deer.

    “Travel” spinning rod for salmon

    We are flying into Yakutat and staying there for a few days to fish for halibut in the ocean and salmon in the streams. Then we fly into a lodge on the Tsiu River to fish for silvers for 4 days. I’m really looking forward to it.
