1) South Africa in June.
2) Hopefully use my 12 WY preference points for elk.
3) Work on my calling over the winter, with the hope of notching my elk tag on an archery bull here in Montana.
Yeah, article said he had broken ribs, sternal fracture, and internal abdominal injuries. It sounds like he went into hemorrhagic shock from internal bleeding.
Very tough elk hunting in those areas even with intimate knowledge of the area. The whitetail hunting is good in spots. I live very close, but travel in the opposite direction to hunt elk for a reason. Good luck if you give it a go!
I agree with not shooting, especially since it sounds like the owner was downrange. The last thing you need is to accidentally hit the owner with a bullet. Bear spray is a different story. I’d consider that collateral damage if the dog’s owner got a face full in the process of spraying the dog.
My last experience with Big Sky Beetleworks in 2018 was not good, definitely not “museum quality” work. The elk skull stunk when I got it back and continued to stink for at least 6 months. Then it yellowed terribly. The turbinates were crumbled and deteriorating. I’m pretty sure it was boiled...
I could see this price increase also pushing up NR success rates on elk. If someone drops $2,000 on a tag (and realizes it might be years before they draw again), they might set aside more then the typical one week to fill their tag.
What a wonderful trip for you, your son, and wife. This was the first Live Hunts thread that I’ve followed along with as it was composed, and you did a fantastic job writing it.
Next June will be my first trip to Africa (also South Africa), and it was great to get a taste of what I might...
I believe that warning is only for when the treated clothes are wet. Once they dry skin contact shouldn’t be a problem. Some clothing companies make next-to-skin layers treated with a long-acting permethrin.
I had one on me this spring on a day when the high temperature was 33 degrees. I find they start to get pretty thick around mid April, usually when the temperatures start getting into the 60s.
How much time does he have to hunt? If it is only like a week or so I would strongly consider getting a guide regardless of where you choose to go. Those tags don’t come along every day. He obviously has his own preferences, but if that were me I would go guided somewhere in the wilderness in...
I’m not sure because I bought the Bert’s accessories, but they appear like they would work with other systems. I’m sure they could tell you if you give Bert’s a call.
I had the Bert’s Custom Tackle tracks on my old boat. They were very sturdy and performed well for the 15 years I had them. I’m going to add a set to my new boat for mounting downriggers.
The first few episodes were sort of cheesy. I watched all 10 episodes on Spectrum and it does get better. I had never read any of the books, but I enjoyed it by the end of Season 1.
