I remember that. They reported that she had food in her tent the first time the bear came, after which they ran it off. She supposedly never removed the food, the bear came back again, and we know the rest of the story. I’m not sure if removing the food after the first visit would have...
The chance of being attacked by a grizzly is small. The chance of being attacked by one in your tent is extremely small, especially if you keep food and attractants out of your tent. I read a book about grizzly attacks and if I recall correctly, only 2% of the attacks that produced serious...
I was previously all Sitka. I’m getting some Kuiu now that they are finally making some stuff in Tall sizes. It’s nice not to have to choose between short pants or looking like MC Hammer.
I’m not sure if this has been posted already, but there are proposals to further restrict NR caribou hunting in NW Alaska.

It’s sadly another example of total ignorance of the science...
Marshian, good luck! We are all rooting for you. If you are successful, you really need to do a full body mount, with the goat peering down on the now infamous tent. It would be quite the conversation piece.
Didn’t the season just open on the 15th? You should get back out there and keep trying. 2.5 days of hunting is nothing, especially when the conditions aren’t ideal. That’s just my opinion.
My trophy room is currently under construction. Part of the building has a garage bay for my boat and other toys, so about half of it will house taxidermy.
It was plenty of gun. The shots ranged from 40 to 220 yards. 8 of 10 animals were one shot kills. The other two would have been lethal hits given time, but the animals were still on their feet so I shot again. I shot 175 grain Federal Terminal Ascents. My PH strongly recommended a bonded...
Congratulations and thanks for sharing the story with us. I was wondering if you hunted this general area before, or if you chose the spot completely from e-scouting? Did you do anything in the field to preserve the velvet on your antlers?
Congratulations! I’m hoping to do this hunt in 2 or 3 years depending on availability. Was it hard to get your meat and antlers home? I’m assuming you had to split the skull cap?
Thank you and I totally agree. After this first trip I realized there are more animals in Africa that I “need,” which I hardly knew existed before I went.
It was so much fun. Everyone who had gone to Africa told me that when you go once, you will want to go back. I can say that statement is definitely true.
Yeah, it was definitely atypical, which is apparently pretty rare with kudu. It didn’t have any sign of a previous injury, so I’m not sure what caused it. The kudu was my favorite animal to hunt and the most challenging. It reminded me a lot of hunting elk.
