I've used 90gr of FFG under a 300gr Hornady SST with great success. Nothing I shot went more than 20 yds, 4 deer shot all at approximately 120-130 yds and two elk, one up close at 20 yds and the other at 90. So yeah, I think you'll be just fine.
Hey Harleymc, as an ex-WA muzzy hunter, I can relate to your restrictions. From what you're saying, my guess is your main culprit is moisture. A few things I learned over the years (some the hard way) never leave your gun in its case, mine NEVER stayed in its case longer than it took for me to...
You could try one of the high hunts, the Pasayten Wilderness holds some good Mullies. Granted, its no secret, so unless you get real deep you may not be completely alone. Not sure how much you know about the high hunts, but one nice thing about them is any tag you have applies to the hunt. So...
I never leave the truck without a topo and compass. I rarely take the map and compass out of my pack, but always have them just in case. GPS's are great until the batteries die.
For what its worth, WA has a late season OTC archery tag for the east side of the state. Its only good for a spike or a cow, but some of the units that are open are their wintering grounds. Runs from Nov 23 - Dec 8. But, you're also looking at $183 for non-res. lic. and $497 for a non-res. tag.
I've glassed both with and without a tripod. I tend to let my situation dictate what I do. Where I used to hunt in WA I never carried a tripod as I tended to do more still hunting with my smoke pole. Here is AZ on the other hand, I don't go out without it! I use a 10x42 bino and its on my...
Thought I'd fire off an intro as a new member. The family and I recently relocated to AZ from Eastern WA. Sometimes you gotta follow the paycheck. I've been a diehard muzzy hunter for the past 10 years or so in Washington. Now that I'm in AZ, I've made the switch to archery. With archery...
