    Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

Got out to enjoy the tail end of the dry fly season yesterday with some ants and hoppers. Not a ton of fish, but we caught enough to stay busy. I caught a nice cuttbow off this little ant acid and my dad landed a few and lost a great brown that ate the hopper. Didn’t see another fisherman the...

    WTS Kimber 8400 300 WSM - Threaded

Nice rifle. If this was a .243 or .270 I’d be all over it.

For Sale: Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42

I ended up with more scopes than I need, so I’m selling my Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42 with red illuminated MOA reticle. I hate to get rid of it as it’s a great scope, but it’s more scope than I prefer for the kind of hunting I do. It was mounted on a .308, properly torqued, and very well taken...

    Hydration drinks?

I’ve tried a fair amount, they help keep the cramps and headaches away. Nothing replaces cold beer when you get back to the truck though.

    Tesla Cyber truck

I saw one in Harlowton this spring. It might be the end for small town Montana.

Looking for suggestions on a new caliber

    .270 or .30-06, don’t mess with success.

Bowhunters - not a big impact?

We can’t forget to ridicule the muzzleloader guys, which is going the same direction as archery. Look at this “open sight muzzleloader”. My .270 is more of a primitive weapon than this. This rifle would do some serious damage on the Norris Rd elk in December.

    The Big Iron - .45-70

The Oregon trail 405 gr looks pretty solid and economical. I’m not set up to cast my own.

    The Big Iron - .45-70

My only hangup on the hard casts is wondering if they make enough of a wound channel on your typical heart/lung shot on a deer or elk compared to a soft point. With the bore diameter of the .45-70 it’s probably not worth worrying about. I have no doubt that’s the way to go for penetration.

    The Big Iron - .45-70

That is extremely cool, but for my purposes I think a simple fixed peep is going to be the way to go.

    The Big Iron - .45-70

I was thinking about going with a hard cast as well.

    The Big Iron - .45-70

I’ve always loved lever actions, and since I was a kid I always wanted to own a .45-70. I decided that it was time and ended up coming home with a Henry with some very nice wood. The new Marlins I looked at were great, but I wanted blued steel and walnut in a carbine length barrel instead of...

Favorite gun for shooting STOP signs?

If I’m shooting stop signs I’m doing it in style and taking out the whole post with the new .45-70.

Need some HuntTalk wisdom on 5th Wheels

12,000 plus trailer weight empty and that close to your max pin weight would have me looking at a smaller trailer or a 1 ton, but that’s just me. I don’t like to get anywhere close to the max.

    Marlin guide gun

I’m buying one of the new guide guns as soon as I get a chance. I’ve always wanted one.
