Well after 6 days and running out of days I pulled the trigger after looking over 53 bulls. I saw 6-7 bigger holding out for a special bull. Biggest I saw was 350 ish and 2 in the 340’s. It was a cold hunt as every morning was 0 to -5 , but sunny. Hiked around 50 miles and never saw a soul out...
You ever hunted solo in November when its below freezing? dark at 4:30? there is no hunting or nature for lots of dark boring hours every single night. Completely understandable to look for options
Ive hunted elk and 2 mule deer tags in that unit in the last 8 years, its definitely some steep ass country and will humble you fast. One thing I have learned is you dont have to kill yourself going deep here to find elk unless you got stock. There are more places you can dive in right from the...
most of that the timber is in the bottoms and thats where the elk will be in Sept. They feed out in evenings and through the night and make their way back to the bottoms where its cooler during the day and water
and its this thought process that "everyone" has and turns 4-7 mi in more crowded than hunting 1 mile from the road. Elk will be where elk will be. I have more places to hunt off major roads than deep in the back country cause nobody hunts them. Hunt smarter not harder
I have 4 elk tags and instead of hunting MT and driving way over I am going to concentrate on spots closer to me. Gas will not effect my 9 day trip to ID for elk or my 10 day hunt in UT
Boots! one thing about elk is they are not hard to spot and if you are looking to kill any legal elk I would not worry about a spotter. I rarely use a spotter for elk unless I have a permit tag and I am looking at antlers. My spotter gets extensively used on mule deer hunts. If you dont own a...
I was fortunate enough to draw a Manti late elk tag in the random draw this year. Has anyone on here drawn the tag or been on a hunt in the Manti unit? Im starting to do all the research I can online and gather as much info as I can. Will head down in August to look at unit and at least get...
me too. Biggest bucks I have ever seen that I didnt get were also in these dates. Im lucky enough to watch whitetails out my window at home and there is a noticeable difference when that rut takes off. Its always after Nov 17 and Nov 20th seems to be date most years its full blown
I get 100K pics a year and not a SINGLE cam has ever benefitted me in taking any animal. Now what I dont think should be legal is cellular during season. That is a direct benefit.
There is big differences in time of the year for deer meat quality. If you have not had a alfalfa fed whitetail deer from early Sept then you have no idea how good this is. By far some of the best quality meat I have ever eaten from any biggame.
yup! why i own goats and not to include I can haul up some bad roads where trailers cant get.
Are you talking Movi? and if so why wouldnt use them? test your herd
as a NR my wife and myself drew deer after 2 years of applying. We now have 5 points this year for deer. We drew what was called by many a bad unit or just to many tags. It was the best mule deer hunt we had ever been on. Probably saw 40 or so bucks, not a single person out of their rig hiking...
