further isn't always better.. so many hunters drive to the end of roads or to gates and trail heads to start their hunt. Problem is these areas sometimes become more crowded 5 mi in than hunting next to a road. I have many spots right off heavily used roads that people drive right on by to get...
Some of the best rutting activity I've ever witnessed was in early October in N ID and E WA.
I watched a bull scream his head off and try and mount a cow on nov 25th one year
I know quite abit about the unit. Be in shape! this unit holds some of biggest nastiest country in the lower 48. Near 10,000 at top straight down to snake river around 1,600' . Lots of roads to access the mountains. There are some areas that are not bad at all to hunt or you can really get away...
Never thought I'd see a opener on lake Roosevelt in my lifetime . Been closed for around 30 years. We have been taking advantage of it! What a fun fish to catch. The meat is unbelievable .. Many said it was better than halibut and I have to agree it's awesome .
mature bulls will begin as early as first week of August to mid August when majority will rub velvet off. The growing part stopped long before they took velvet off.. with a mature bull what you see the first week of July is pretty much what you get.
Exactly ! Way to many people caught up with the look at all those apps for that unit it must be good! So many good units in NV that take very little to draw
rubies are none of my choices...I have found some units that lack applicants due to terrain and lack of "road hunting" = less people...which was true where we hunted last year seeing not 1 single person out of there side by side or truck.
I live in WA and the mule deer hunting here is pathetic and I apply outta state . When I here people talk about states out west and some units not being good I take with a grain of salt. What some think are bad units to others may be fantastic, all about each ones perspective and what they have...
what do you mean sold out? this is not a first come first serve. Its a drawing for all those combos...just some years there are more applicants than tags awarded and some years less apps which go first come first serve after the drawing and results posted.
Depends on how north you are wanting to go. ALOT of N ID is covered in logging roads and quad trails. Most all of it can hold mature bucks due to heavy cover. Patience is key, walking around heavy cover is a very ineffective way to kill a mature whitetail. Sit on ridges in timber with good...
