Welcome to AZ! Check out azgfd.com to get the details. There are some seminars listed on the site as well as the current regulations. There is also a link to how the draw system works. Unlike Colorado, we don't have an OTC opportunity for elk (less some predation hunts with extremely low success...
Well, I got a Cabela's gift card for Christmas. So I loaded up a bunch of fishing gear and pressed the Order Now button. My stuff is arriving in early/mid January; I hope my next post isn't worthy of a position in the Jokes section.
Not to muddy the water, but there is also the traditional approach - flint lock or cap lock rifle. I built a Kentucky rifle from a kit. It's a nice project if you're handy with woodworking.
Pat, I don't know about the TC Pro Hunter, but the CVA has a conversion kit if you get stuck in a place (Ft Lewis maybe) where you have to use a Northwest Compliant ignition system. As for what's the best, I've heard nothing but good things about the CVA Accura V2. My hunting partner has one...
Are you planning to shoot real black powder or a black powder substitute? BrentD has good suggestions for real black powder - also good question about where to buy it. If you have to go online, you'll pay a HAZMAT fee of around $25 or more, depending on the store. That's probably why most people...
My dad's Hawken shoots best at around 80 gr. I would start at about 70 and work up 5 gr at a time to find the sweet spot. Are you shooting real black powder or a substitute?
Cornell, thanks. I have read some great reviews about the Diawa BG. Maybe I'll save up my lunch money and get one of those. I'm currently using a Pflueger President that I've had for many years - one of the smoothest reels I've ever used. I'm looking for something with a little stronger drag...
Does anyone have experience with Kastking reels? I'm looking at the Sharky 3. Good reviews on several sites and a couple on Youtube, but I've learned to be somewhat skeptical about most reviews.
Well, considering they're 40-60 lbs and you can generally get to within 50 yds or less (sometimes you can walk right up on them), most any centerfire rifle or pistol will work. I would recommend .243 or better. This spring I'm using a .50 muzzleloader shooting patch and ball during the rifle...
Get their sizing kit to determine the right bullet. Mine measured .502, but it was a little too snug. I'll probably order some more in .501 for comparison. (shooting Traditions Strikerfire LDR).
Yeah, we're in strange times right now for sure. I was out for a walk this morning and saw one in my neighbor's back yard (I live in the sticks in SE Az). Nearly 10:00 am and Wile E. was out for a hunt.
Did the BOR lock feel snug going down the barrel? I wonder if your barrel is too large and the bullet can't seat properly. Could be that your gun doesn't like BORs. I shot some THOR bullets this weekend with really good results. Maybe try those?
