Factory ammo (VOR-TX) lists the 150 TTSX @ 2900 fps from a .308 Win. With the predicted ranges that you expect, you should have plenty of velocity for good expansion and likely an exit wound.
Barnes bullets ( we handload) have been our “only” bullet since the mid-‘90’s.....and we’ve yet to...
Your list didn’t contain, possibly the best .308 Win. bullet for elk. That would be the VOR-TX, 150 grain! Do some research on them, before you discard them. Loaded with Barnes Bullets, which are a proven performer on larger game. memtb
Welcome from North-Central Wyoming! You will find a wealth of information here, as well as an abundance of different ways “ to skin the same cat”! Forums can indeed be entertaining! memtb
It looks like I’m “stalking you”! ;) I’m laid-up with a “screwed-up” back....the wife signed me up! I’m getting “cabin fever”....she figured that I needed more ways to spend my time! memtb
In most hunting related forums, I’m the “odd man out”! While we have several (lots) of rifles.....the wife and I use “only” one rifle (his and hers) for all of our big game hunting, from antelope/deer, up to and through moose. One rifle, one caliber, one bullet ( Bullets have changed as Barnes...
No problem with picture....it seems when I kill something real big (moose), they always die pointed in the wrong direction! :D
My wife’s last moose was also taken with a .338 WM, using Barnes 225 TTSX! memtb
Born in Louisiana, moved to Wyoming in ‘85. I’ve been hunting for as long as I remember, though, didn’t start packing a firearm until age 8. Married a Wyoming girl in 1990, who also loves the out of doors. We hunt big game from antelope/deer, elk moose, bear, and we’ve both been lucky enough to...
Generally speaking, moose are not hard to kill with proper bullet placement. But often, they don’t realize that they should be dead, and it takes a little time for them to fall down. First I would recommend a premium bullet, that retains a high % of it’s weight. Personally any of the 30’s (.308...
Nut,
Eighty-eight (88) miles each way! Plus 12hrs+ at work, makes for a pretty long day. But,I work 7 on 7 off, so it aint so bad.The drive takes me along 35+ miles of the Big Horn River,15 miles of beautiful canyon, and about 15 miles of lake shore. Game encounters include whitetail/mule deer...
noharleyyet,
We have a mobile base camp( large 5th wheel with most creature comforts and good to about -30F), which we get as close as possible to our hunting area. From there we drive in by truck as far as possible then, either walk-in, or backpack in and spike-camp! -memtb
Well she is consistant. One Shot,One Kill!! She got her moose awhile back. But, we've been "skunked" on elk. We didn't hunt nearly as hard as we should've, and it shows.
She took a young, tasty bull, that's really not mounting material. But, she made a really good shot.At 209 steps(long...
I need some quick help for a friend. I'll be headed out tommorow, so any help today would be great. He needs load info for the 140 BarnesX,preferably the new Triple.
Thanks in advance -memtb
My wife and I met Elkhunter and LB about 3 weeks ago. Had a good lunch at Bubba's, and good conversation.
I know it's been a while before I mentioned our get together, but we've been away from the net for 3 weeks.
To summarize My wife's moose hunt, "NO Shots Fired". We've not seen the...
FAIRCHASEBEN,
Good luck on the hunt. Hope you enjoy your time here in WY. I've never hunted 107, in fact it's been several years since the wife and I have hunted lope. -memtb
