Think i am going to be renting llamas.
We did a cabin 15 minutes from one location, but when we started splitting up it took about 1.5 hrs to drop everyone else and get to our access. Might have to rethink the our hunting ideas too.
Day 3:
Decided to try a new part of the unit at a slighter lower elevation 7,500ft or lower. This was the day I learned to get my climbing done while I was fresh, first thing in the morning, and then come down in the evening.
Got to see lots of country but did not find anything other than...
Thanks everyone….. just got back from MT and got tired of hiking 3 miles in and back in one day just to be in elk.
Needs:
-way to dry out if the weather is bad
-4-5 guys hunting
- able to handle some snow/rain
-have a wood stove
If there are things to consider please let me know what i am...
No, we continued to hunt the area and located elk in the area. The guy who hunted there for a number of years made the idiot comment.
I laughed about the camp being there because we hiked 2.5 miles in to glass the meadow to only find the camp set up there. Just part of the public land experience…
Day 2:
Our group decided to split up, and try a couple of trail heads and see if there was more recent elk sign.
The first two miles were easy since we were on a nice maintained trail. As the sun came up my partner and I came to a hillside i planned to glass. I got my tripod out, binos...
Thanks, I never thought about bad assumptions. The reason why I asked is there were 2 or 3 other hunting groups at the trailheads who have watched this guy be successful year in and year out.
For those of you who hunt 270 southern portion regularly. I am looking to find a name of an individual who is at least 6’6” and uses a nice white dodge pickup with a very nice camper in the bed of the truck. The gentleman I am looking for hiked in from multiple trail heads. People who have...
Day-1
Our group got up early and headed to a well known bench and saddle where we were going to glass 5 different drainages. The elk would have been overwhelmed if any were in those drainages. There were 14 trucks in the parking lot, and the hunters were climbing to glassing locations with...
So this evening the group went out to try and find some elk prior to the opener. We did see some sheep. I decide to try another forest trail road and found out it was too narrow and not maintained like the other forest roads. Had to hand trim 3 or 4 limbs and push a top off the edge to get the...
Just got done spending 5 hours locating all of the access locations to where we plan to hunt. The mountains are a bit daunting to look up and think how we going to hike up there? I know one foot after another.
After little over of 29 hours in the car we made it to our cabin and we are all in bed for the evening. Going to scout access points and see if we can locate some animals prior to the opener.
There are three of us headed out for the MT elk rifle season. Roughly 27 hours straight through till we get to our lodging for the next week. The group consists of myself and my brother four years of chasing elk mostly unsuccessful, and a guy who has never been out west hunting.
Now we just...
I expect us to see more animals than on the other hunts we hunted units where the public land is severally limited.
We did have the conversation last week Monday, but being from the Midwest and going west to hunt is completely different. Had no clue of the grind unit we did it twice.
Looking for some advice on how to handle a newbie coming on my upcoming elk hunting hunt. After going 1 for 4 on elk hunts in Wyoming and 1 for 1 on deer hunts in Wyoming there is a mental and physical grind when hunting. My brother and I have hunted together for at least 36yrs and we know each...
Last year I took my 6yr old boy and 8yr old daughter on a late season cow elk trip. The children got to see elk but we never got a shot. They did 8 miles round trip on a stalk.the highlights were the cabin and stopping at DQ in Casper.
