A couple of questions:
1) When does Wyoming finalize their elk job completion reports for last winter? Best I can tell, the website only has winter 2016-2017 data.
2) Anybody have some experience in the Dubois area that wouldn't mind me bouncing some questions off of them? Going solo this...
Not sure if this is "fireside" worthy, but I am in need of tire chains for a tire size of 285/75r16. Is there a certain brand of tire chains to look for?

What he said.....except I am going solo. I must be stupid. I will be in, or around the same northern units you are looking into. I have southern units I am researching too just in case I chicken out. Good luck!
Non-resident here, hunting Wyoming this fall. Am I allowed to sit in the wilderness area and glass from it into the non-wilderness area? Is that considering hunting the wilderness?
Tony
Agree. I follow the roads to their ends and see if there is wide open space available to me. I just zoom in to a certain altitude and fly over it with GE until I reach what I believe is the last of the drivable area and then zoom out to see if its worth the drive. I just keep running across...
Thanks for the replies. Are these areas a person should avoid for the most part? Too much traffic? I see elk being more agile than cattle. Can these fences affect their travel patterns much?
I am probably asking the dumbest question ever, but can somebody explain what I am seeing. The fences keep popping up across large swaths of ground in other locations I am researching.
Two sources say its public land on national forest. Are fences on national forest land normal?
I will be in Wyoming grizz country hunting elk this year. The one task that has me somewhat anxious is the breaking down of the elk IF I get one down. I am concerned I will be too focused on it to look around and check my surroundings enough.
I saw Fred Eichler's 10 minute gutless method...
I have a hunter's check station question. The Wyoming big game regulations state that every hunter/angler/trapper entering or leaving areas for which check stations have been established shall stop and report at the check station if the check station is on that person's route to and from the...
How does one find out through mapping sources if roads around private property are actually private roads or open to public pass-through? Is there a trick when using OnX, Gai or GoogleEarth to determine this or is there some other online research I would need to do?
Thanks for any help.

I think I have to take separate trips. The area I am looking at has a 10/1 firearm opener. I have commitments the first week of October that I will not be able to get out of most likely. If I can't make the opener of firearm, is it best to go back the 2nd week or wait until the end of October?
I finally have enough vacation time and the wife's permission where I can spend a good amount of time in the elk woods if I wanted to. I have a Wyoming General Tag and I have 3 weeks of vacation I can use for it. My wife is telling me to bring home my first elk this year. Easier said than...
I have only hunted out west 1 time. We got out there before the season started. We saw elk, but none that were talking. I am looking forward to going out later this year. I want to experience both and go from there. I hope there is some snow too.
