Hello all,
So my buddy and I have been planning our first western hunting trip for well over a year now, after months of research, refining gear lists, looking at maps and excitement, we finally left North Carolina on September 8th and began our long drive to central Idaho. We were blessed with...
Thanks, I've never had a scope with one as my shots are generally pretty close but I'm fixing to buy a new scope and just wanted to see what the consensus was
Curious as to how many people use a scope with an adjustable objective and how necessary is it or at what ranges do you find that you parallax is an issue?
I was using a 123 grain SST in my Grendel. I understand the Grendel is a pretty sweet round but I also feel like with it you need to hand load to maximize its potential. I thought about having some hand loads with a better bullet worked up for it as well but I am dependent on someone else to do...
Thanks for all the thoughts guys, I know this wouldn't exactly be using this caliber the way it's intended to be, and I do have other rifles...but the trouble is if my wife is hunting at the same time I am then I'm not allowed to use her 7mm-08, and I had a bad experience last year with my 6.5...
Looking for suggestions for a good factory load for my 300 win mag for whitetails, with a lot of my shots being under 100 yards...I am concerned about either pencil holing a deer at that range, or having a bullet blow up and damage a lot of meat. I bought a box of the Remington managed recoil...
Just finished listening to episode 56 this morning on my way to work. I searched around the forum and found this thread https://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/showthread.php?275250-Lander-quot-one-shot-quot-hunt-issues but I was curious as to whether or not anything ever happened with regards...
When I took my N.B.E.F. course the instructor brought a tanned deer hide and a cut on contact fixed blade, a chisel tip (muzzy) style fixed blade and a mechanical head. He had two people hold the hide stretched out and poked each broadhead style through it to demonstrate the amount of force...
I had trouble last year getting my fixed blades to group consistently even though I had changed nothing on my set up, took my bow to a pro shop and my string had stretched enough over time to change my nocking point which caused the deviation from my field points...I personally have never shot...
8andcounting...we are headed to the Pioneer Zone in Idaho...a long drive from the mountains of North Carolina!
antlerpursuit...I do a lot of bass fishing...that's all thats keeping me sane through these hot and humid summer months haha!
I'm leaving for my first elk hunt on September 8th, I've been going through my gear, shooting my bow every day, hiking around the mountains where I live, scouting as best I can through google earth...but the time still seems to be passing slowly...anyone else as excited as I am to get out there...
I've used Easton FMJ's for years now, at 11.3 grains per inch I did lose some speed but my bow is quieter shooting the heavy arrows and the have awesome penetration. When shooting with friends my arrows are consistently driven deeper into the target even though they are shooting the same draw...
After a few phone calls today it sounds like I am going to be able to trade in my tag, I just have to mail my other tag to a regional office with a check for $3.75, Steelhead I sent you a PM...thanks to everyone for the help!
Yeah I didn't realize they were such desirable tags, but if everything goes as planned there will be one more available for a lucky non-resident! haha...As of right now we are leaning towards the Pioneer zone and unit 36A, can anyone think of any reasons that I might be overlooking that should...
I've looked into SE Idaho somewhat, but I was worried about access issues as there seems to be a lot of private land in that region, I'm sure there is some great hunting but I was attracted to units that are predominately public land and also I like the idea of hunting in wilderness areas so I...
Thanks, I'll give them a call here shortly, I was going to call yesterday but wasn't able to find time until late last night and I assumed they'd be closed. In hindsight I guess it would've been much smarter just to pick a zone that wasn't so hard to acquire a tag in. I'm sure there are plenty...
Hello all, this morning at 10:00 am mountain time, my buddy and I were sitting waiting on the Sawtooth A tags to be released for sale. There were only 43 of these available for non-residents and we both hit purchase at the same time hoping that either we would both get one or that neither of us...
Sounds like a cool idea to me too, my grandfather gave me his old pre-64 model 94 Winchester carbine before he died, it's got notches carved in the foregrip for every deer he killed with it, it is my goal to try and take a deer with it this fall...it's pretty cool to think about carrying it into...
