My goals for colorado- hunt area full of aspens, 1st rifle season, kill 1st legal bull I find within 4-5 miles of truck. Been in an awwwful dry spell.
Im also leaning towards 66, have 2 points. Sounds like only 3 trailheads in the whole unit? Im wondering if its too rugged to manage without packstock? Hunted MT, average 3-5mi from the trailheads with no problem really.

This. I've hunted the area you are referencing 3 times. Wont be back there anytime soon. Saw a few elk, on public, tons of em on private, and the locals almost laugh when you say your not using an outfitter.
Haven't seen a muley over 125 ish in 22 days of hunting.

You need a thicker skin. If thats all it takes to get you rattled is a little internet banter...good luck getting an elk.
From a guy who has elk hunted MT a few times, take the veteran advice. It'll save you a lot of anguish. Send em a bottle of something good at Christmas, call it good.
