That's the first thing I thought when I read your original post. If they were that lazy with the rest of the stuff, I figured they wouldn't spend the time separating the horns from the skull.
It sounds like a big mess. I think I'd start dealing with a different taxidermist/tanner. I hope you have better luck in the future. At least your safari was successful.
Yikes! You know the saying... fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me.
If you don't mind me asking, how much were the taxidermy fees? Included in the safari or separate?
It's a budget end rifle that was made from the mid-60s to the late 70s. Remington took over the market niche with the lower priced 788 and pushed them out. I've shot one in .308 with open sights and it had pretty good groups. The bolt wasn't butter, but it was better than you'd expect from a...
Go to the NF or BLM website and search for dispersed camping. It'll basically tell you it's allowed in most cases. It's always good to check for the specific area you're going. I've spent many of trips back country camping on NF land.

I'm not a trophy chaser so what B&C does has little effect on me, but I do agree that some of these push an ethics boundry and all of them contribute to a less fair chase hunt.
I'll echo the recommendation on the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. I spent at least half a day in the firearms portion of the museum and could have stayed longer if it wasn't for my wife being ready to move on.
In that case:
Rimfire: Ruger 10/22 because in SHTF times, it'll put food on the table daily
Pistol: XD 45 Tact converted to 460 Rowland. My go to for swamp deer and hogs.
Shotgun: Browning A5 Hunter (12 ga) - I'm terrible at wing shooting, but I do pretty decent with this shotgun compared to my others.
Rifle: Tikka T3 lite (30-06) - This one is tough. I have the same model in .270 and it really gets all the action. But if I have to limit myself to 1, then...
