    Help! Erratic broadhead flight

Back in the day I got my hands on a copy of Eastons " How to papertune your bow" or something like that. Using that I have never had a problem getting bullet holes with both field or broadheads. Muzzy 4 blades are my choice. Start by papertuning your broadheads. The paper tear will give you...

How often do you change out your bow?

Yeah.... I run a 2005 Hoyt Vtec. It shoots just as well as when I purchased it in 2005. If I remember correctly it was around 900 bucks out the door completely set up. Its been all over this country hunting and still keeps putting broadheads through the pumphouses.

Anybody else have spare scopes for thier Hunting Rifles

I don't have spare scopes... spare rifles. I am from the "keep it simple" way of thinking. All model 70's. All 3x9x40 Burris with Plex. All three .270's are set up at same point of impact with identical bullets/FPS, etc.. No guessing or remembering. I would never ever hunt without first...

    Ditching the Dip

I quit back in 1995. My 17 year old brother was just diagnosed for the second time with cancer ( first time colon as a 12 year old, second time in the lungs). My mom called me at college and asked me to quit the day after his diagnosis. I was only 21 and had been chewing skoal and redman...

    Disc pinched nerves

I am in the same boat. Back in February I was hanging some lights inside our covered deck. Thought I was on the last rung of the ladder but actually was on the second rung. Stepped down to what I thought was the floor and then tried to catch myself, got off balance and my right foot landed on...

    Red algae ?

We were just on the Gulf Coast of Florida and while not related to NM the red tide ( red algae bloom) was horrific and there were millions of dead fish washing up on shore the first day we were there. Caused throat irritation for us, coughing, and it essentially attacks the nervous system of...

    New old rifle 22 Hornet

The Hornet... as my name suggests I like it alot. Mine ( sorry not a single shot a 1941 Model 70 with lyman 48 peep) has been all over the country. It is my favorite rifle to shoot. Great little round for the kiddos to shoot to. I have never laughed so hard than on an antelope hunt when the...

    Teaching Water Blind Retrieves

I never heard that before about him. I have used his technique on 3 dogs since ( non hunting dogs) to house train, sit/stay, drop, how to greet people, etc.. and it has worked well. But you make a great point that consistency is the key no matter what philosophy. Trying to get all 4 of my...

    Teaching Water Blind Retrieves

Its been a while, but I trained by pointing lab with Richard Wolters " Water Dog" and "Game Dog". Brilliant teaching techniques. And Wolters was from the school of thought, teach on land using hand signals for a blind retrieve and no matter where the dog is, land, water, space, air, they will...

    now considered useless traits

Exactly what my post meant. Being a little league/softball coach back in the early 2000's when it seemed to start to today with our now 8 year old third daughter ( I have coached them all so far). The parents not being able to parent and set up what happens in life. Sometimes you win...

Being taught how to lose with composure and NOT NEEDING A DAMN PARTICIPATION TROPHY.... Which speaks to your delayed gratification.

    now considered useless traits

Knowing how to replace a bike tire on your kids bike. I can't believe the amount of working bikes I see and know of that have been thrown away because of bald/flat tires. Two screwdrivers and a couple wrenches to remove from the frame. 10 minutes later new tire on rim. I can't tell you now...

    SXS or O/U

Awesome pics Shrapnel! I have to agree. I have both, shot sporting clays with both, hunted with both, and shoot the over/under better. But man when you swing a double on a rooster it looks pretty cool to my eyes.

    Who’s building arrows yet?

Another Blitzenburger fan here as well. I bought mine in 97 I think and haven't bought a store bought completed arrow since. My favorite set up is two white vanes and a flourescent yellow @#)(# feather on top of a white crest. Even in the early morning you can see the yellow so you can load...

    Rain pants vs gaiters?

I wear my gaiters ( Cabelas Gore Tex Gaiters circa 1998) every time in the woods. Whether hunting, hiking, shed or mushroom hunting, scouting, etc.. you get the picture. They keep out dust, dirt, burrs, deter ticks and keep my laces from getting snagged on something. Great for morning dew as...

    Think it’s so easy??

I have done OH to CO 4 times now solo, St. Louis to Durango solo, Chicago to ABQ solo, Chicago to Missouri solo, all to hunt. Fun no, but I don't mind. I have my gear sorted to the extent that I can lay down in the back of my vehicle ( F250 or Audi Q7) and rack out to sleep pretty damn...

Times a cheap piece of equipment saved a hunt, or my hide.

Foam ear plugs.... A partner sleeping in the tent with you who snores will wish you had some. I never leave home without them, whether traveling for work ( noisy hotels by freeways) or backpacking. Roll of electrical tape and some TP was what I needed to stop a pretty good knife wound 7.5...
