I scouted up three studs so far, all in bow range just feeding. All within two miles of my camp. 180-190". Only problem so far is all the bounty hunters I've bumped into. None with a tag of course. Screened all my pre-determined spots except one. Hatch Bench. Anyone know what roads to access...
Departed two days late due to bow then hitch problems, but finally here at a Richfield hotel. Driving up to make camp tomorrow morning. Then some practice shooting, and scouting.
Got a few last minute supplies in the mail last few days. One being a mini-Starlink. Last item is a portable generator to arrive Monday. Visited bow shop again for new bow sight tuning. Will start packing truck Monday. Can’t believe it’s already time to go. Departing Thursday morning.
I have a local going to meet me there and show me some spots. He just called me today. He is seeing many studs already. Great antler growth. But he does not stand hunt.
Originally was just going there to scout only this year & draw next, but a heart failure diagnosis advanced things.
BuzzH, Forest ranger at the Kaibab agreed with my use of tree stands. Was very dry & tough stalking. The only two big ones he saw that year were taken from stands. Although few use them. I shot one on my first hunt there from stand. Guided another Indiana friend to a 170” from a stand the...
Although this will be my 10th mule deer hunt, I still don’t feel experienced. I know tree stand hunting is not popular out there, but it’s my preferred method due to physical issues. But I also plan to mix in some stalks on my upcoming Paunsagunt deer hunt. I’m wondering if when stand hunting if...
This is my first. After 4 long years of the worst presidency in my 65 year old lifetime, including half the shoppers in my local Walmart being from Venezuela & Honduras, I’ve never been so ecstatic to get rid of a loser. Joe needs a retirement home NOW, not tomorrow. Do hope Jill holds the...
This is what I was trying to point out in prior posts. Unfortunately, there is no longer any "system or strategy" to get good tags. The few remaining loopholes closed. Your 1-2% odds luck of the past was not sustainable. I'm afraid this is the reality, and your draw results going forward will...
Yup I’ve been doing 40-50 apps/year since 1996, but have drawn only one random tag since 2012. Statistically should have drawn 5 or 6. No love in WY but that was just for a bonus as I got an Utah OIL tag in my pocket.
Maybe I read this post too fast but I don’t recall seeing the word “water” even once. Anytime I’m lope hunting, that’s the first thing I focus on. Finding water, preferably running streams. If I didn’t find any at first, I’d begin checking the more remote drainages further into the hunt. And...
The tag I drew in Utah this year typically auctions for $50k. I spent 27 points for the tag but honestly would take the money if I could sell. Despite the long wait, a special hunt is just not that big a deal to me. I love hunting local whitetails for $26 just as much. I don’t care how...
Did you know there’s an actual YouTube video of Buzz applying for his last sheep tag?
The dudes behind him are some Hunt Talk newbies that found out about his system. Some crazy stuff. I personally don’t want an msg tag that bad. 😲
