Thats the gods honest truth. This year I really plan to time myself at full draw and try to do some extended holds at short distances. The nice thing about that is that I could do that in my backyard. I think the biggest thing that screwed me this year was not drawing back soon enough. Ah...
@MNElkNut Great points, thank you! I guess that's why archery hunting is so challenging, you may learn your lesson from one elk only to have another take you school the next time.
I know all elk are different but I was hoping to get some feedback from some of you who have had way more elk encounters then me and if you noticed any general themes with the encounters you've had.
In September my brother called in a great bull in a thick area. My brother moved off behind...

Cool video of them surveying the elk a few months after.
Great job on that! @ElkFever2 I am going to start working on my first deadhead restoration. It looked like whitebone creations used “American chestnut poly stain” in one video and “early American” stain in another and I was wondering if you used either of those? Are you happy with the color...
For a GF no. But I would also want to understand her motivation and why. If she had an issue with my flintlock then I would almost certainly know she had an issue with my hunting.
I think everyone has nailed it so far. I also bring old Danner leather boots not my current Kenetreks. The rocks in that country just eat my soles up and destroy the leather. I also bring tweezers or a Leatherman to pull out cactus needles (see pic). I haven't run into rattle snakes in NM yet...
I have the Mystery Ranch Quick Draw (small) and it does everything that it needs to do. My Leupold 10x42 BX5s fit a little snug but fit. This might be a general bino harness issue but mine tends to get really hot. I'm not sure if someone has one that breathes better.
Geeze I wish my gpa was still around to ask about that, he used to hit Lake Erie real hard for Perch and Walleye. The other crazy thing was at the end of the video when they couldn't find the missing fisherman and all they saw were balloons.
I got all my tags off the leftover list this year. I do feel bad for the guys who don't work in front of a computer like I do and don't have the ability to keep an eye on things. If it changes who is willing to get a part time job at The Wal Mart to help us out?
I'm praying I get the opportunity to get a doe or cow elk still this year. My freezer is getting empty and my wife doesn't care if the meat in the freezer comes from something that had antlers or not, as long as the meat is there.
Similar to what @2rocky said, it really helps me for spur of the moment research. I picked up quite a few leftover tags this year and having gohunt open in tandem really helped me make my decisions. I like having a good understanding of 1 platform and don't like sifting through a lot of the...
Before I moved to Colorado, I was hunting not terribly far from Columbus Ohio on public and would see a lot of stands. I would see other hunters but never anyone using the stands. I never hunted in the tree stands but definitely hunted below them a few times. There just isn't enough land out...
