I probably could have stated this better, CPW may be hesitant to call out high levels of predation (from lions, bears and very soon wolves) as a factor in declining elk populations. As stated in the article, CPW can only do so much. They can’t make people harvest bears or mountain lions. I...
Valid point and hunters should be careful but I would point out that hunters can be effectively managed and regulated in their taking of prey. Agencies can dictate when, where, and exactly how many animals a hunter takes. No way to regulate any of those things with a wolf, mtn lion, or bear.
I thought the articles were pretty good. Definitely an issue that needs more exposure. Fragmentation and loss of habitat along with pressure on calving areas are negatively affecting elk herds in Colorado. However, CPW is probably hesitant to call out lack of predator management as a factor due...
I completely understand your sentiment but I believe you are being a bit too broad or imprecise in your diagnosis of the problem. Colorado has had many democratic Governors in the past without such one-sided affronts to hunting. Governor Polis is the issue, plain and simple. He has embraced a...
Colorado Title Board did remove the language "trophy hunting" from the title and statement clause.

This is absolutely the situation. There is definitely a case that greatly reduced license prices do not properly reflect the value of the wildlife. I firmly believe those commissioners want to end bear and cat hunting completely. They aren’t able to do that……..yet. So their best option is to...
If I were you I would be more worried about organizations like this that have set up shop in your state…..

“Ultimately, hunters aren’t really necessary to manage wildlife, Kevin Bixby told Outdoor Life last year. Bixby is the executive director of Wildlife For All, a...
I am conflicted also. It is a pain reminding grown adults over and over of deadlines and sometimes treating them almost like children. However, I also like to share the outdoors with others (sometimes) and a dependable hunting partner can be pretty hard to find.
Thank you Big Fin for taking this on. It is terribly important for the future of hunting. Can’t wait to listen. We definitely need some leaders in the hunting community to help us coalesce around a positive, impactful message. And even more importantly to get that message out across a broad...
Yep. Expect the Center for Biological Diversity to gain even more leverage in Colorado wildlife management soon. Their "alumni" now hold two seats on the 11 person CPW Commission. That will most likely increase as Gov Polis makes more CPW Commission appointments throughout his term.
Sounds like either personal opinion or informed through an adviser, he took an ill-advised policy stance. Pretty much all public opinion data shows public land transfer is overwhelmingly unpopular in Montana and most of the west. Standing by for the HuntTalk caucus to trash another former Navy...
I think you can get set up with a pretty nice CO legal CVA Accura/Optima for a decent price. The Blackhorn 209 breech plug upgrade is also worth looking at. However, Blackhorn 209 powder has gotten pretty crazy expensive.
The real intent here from “Friends of Animals” is greater and more sinister than just defending multi-use outdoor recreation. The intent is to slander and generate negative publicity regarding hunters and hunting in general. They want Colorado residents to believe that hunters receive...
Absolutely did matter. It was a razor thin margin despite wolf proponents and animal rights activists pouring millions of dollars into Colorado. Additionally, the mountain lion "trophy" hunting ban is significantly different than the wolf ballot initiative. During the initial hearing, the...
This post x 1000000. We need to get this message out. I don't see anti-hunting orgs directing one single cent or one work-hour toward habitat improvement. All they do is fill the coffers of wealthy activist law and public relations firms. The work of RMBS and WSF in Colorado regarding sheep is...
