My two oldest son's drew really good Rocky Mt Elk tags in NE Oregon this year so I didn't really expect to get much hunting in this year myself. Luckily they both killed nice bulls the first weekend and I survived helping pack out of the steepest country I have ever had to pack meat out of...
I'll be trying to convince my wife that she should apply in the morning. We are planning on buying a sailboat and heading that way when we retire in a couple years but if she got a job up there I could retire now! I like the sound of this idea a lot.
My 2014 Tacoma has never needed anything done to it. 145,000 miles and drives like new still. Kind of have been looking for an excuse to get a 2021 so it will be interesting to hear reviews of them as they roll out. I'll probably drive the 2014 for another 5 years though....
Hopefully you can keep it that way! We get some of the nonsense out here but they are limited by their cars batteries I think because it hasn’t got too bad yet. They don’t want to eat anything I do either so it’s mostly just unsightly to see them.
That’s one of the only reasons we don’t live in Idaho or Montana. Right now in the freezer (besides deer, elk and pronghorn) we have butter clams, chinook, tuna, ling cod, rockfish, chanterelles and cauliflower mushrooms. Just don’t like to be too far from the ocean, it brings a lot of variety...
I was on that path for the first 4 years of wearing progressive glasses. Finally they quit changing and I was able to keep same prescription this year. My only complaint is depth perception isn’t what it was before needing glasses. Sure is nice to be able to see though!
I don't think you can bear Oregon for a DIY bear hunt. You can kill one in the spring and two in the fall. You can hunt everything from rainforest to the desert and bears are easy to come by. Non resident tag is the least expensive in the country at $16.50.
SW is your best bet in my opinion. Best chance at seeing multiple bears and at having success. NW corner seems to produce a lot more big bears but you won't see nearly as many and might not draw with no points.
I agree with gouch in that whatever tag you can hunt the most is the best choice. There are plenty of bears everywhere.
Also, what is your goal? Do you just want to kill a bear or do you want a color phase? Big black one?
