It is a busy time of year with the honey bees and pollinating, but made use of a the few nice mornings without high winds and rain. Amazingly enough I was able to get my three spring tom's in a variety of different terrain which made it a pretty cool year.
#1 was in the timber country
#2 was...
Lots of lake fishing for trout, good bass fishing, sturgeon can be fun, but it's all catch and release by then. The coast always has fun bottom fish charters and usually you can drop a crab pot too. Bay clams are fun to dig or rake also.
Lots of trails close to Cascade Locks. Some nice lakes and trails up out of Hood River (20 miles east). Hwy.35 goes south of off 84 and will bring you right to the mountain and some good easy trails along the Hood River and tribs. Lots of Wineries, Cider too if they are into that stuff. Some...
Had my first bear sighting this morning. Pretty blonde bear, but it was also pretty dang small. Talked myself in to letting him walk. I'm not sure why though :).
I agree with limiting tags, maybe controlled tags during the late part of season. I do not agree with outfitter set asides. There are plenty of people that will go with outfitters that draw hunts right along with the rest of us. There is so much potential to increase the quality of the hunting...
I'd definitely do it if I was eligible as a resident. But I think it would be awesome to experience another sheep hunt, since I'll be lucky to draw one or two in my life
I thought I'd do better :). Fun test! I think I got 18/21. It wouldn't let me put the wrong answer, so I just kept track of the ones I tried to enter incorrectly.
I have seen 7 twice during spring season but 3 of those each time were cubs. 5 adults 1 evening in fall season. But I've also gone half of the season and saw 0, so guess it all evens out 😀
I've seen 5, all in AK. They are incredible animals and amazing to watch covering ground. We have been lucky to see a couple of them during season. Very cool critter!
It always sounds funny hearing that some people don't hunt in the rain. If you grow up hunting Blacktail where I'm from, we are always hoping for rain :). The best time to hunt deer and elk here is when it's raining or right when the storm breaks. This guy got up to move during a torrential down...
I'd donate to a fund to stop outfitter set asides and contribute to a campaign to remove the wilderness rule, just like I did with the corner crossing fund. I have nothing against outfitters whatsoever, but I think all non-residents should draw from the same NR pool with no preference to diy or...
I did a solo 5 day canoe trip here in OR for deer. Plenty of fish to eat and managed to tag a little buck.
I always read stories and saw pics in Fur Fish and Game of canoe trips back east and just had to try it once. It was pretty cool!
If you're interested in OR let me know. Good luck it...
