Losing western culture in global commercialism.

Me neither. My mother had a Campbell Soup can electric can opener. Both my grandma and mom had metallic copper Jetcone GM Frigidaire washing machines built circa 1959. My grandma had a copper Hotpoint electric range oven and matching electric stove top built into custom wooden cabinets. That...

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

You are not from the scene of suburban mown lawns, old men with transistor radios in hand, backyard Webers and woody station wagons, my friend?

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

HOA's? Homeowners' associations? Well, American Boomers don't like to see old banged-up rusty jalopies (especially on jack stands) on the block. We don't like to see indoor furniture parked outdoors on front porches and lawns. A redwood bench, lawn chair and table belongs in a home garden, not a...

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

I actually like Toyota and drive a '95 Corolla built on American soil. The word TOYOTA is spelled out on the body in chrome letters. Around 2008, Toyota dropped the brand name TOYOTA from the body sheet metal altogether on virtually all its passenger car, SUV and van models. TOYOTA was spelled...

What is that buttom with the double red triangle mean? Automatic roadside warning trainagles have been deployed? Do you turn the bottom knob to 4H to navigate to your nearest 4H club meeting?

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

My generation built American cars that said MERCURY, OLDSMOBILE, PONTIAC and PLYMOUTH on the bodies with chrome letters. All those American brands are now obsolete. Millenials must think these names sound corny. It's a wonder MERCURY outboards are still in production. I am glad that laminate...

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

The whole point of this thread is I'm demoralized as an American. You know what I mean. Press 1 for English on the telephone. I prefer a COLT pistol over an H&K one because COLT rings American in my ears. SAVAGE has more charm to me than CZ. BROWNING has more charm to me than YILDIZ. I could go...

Losing western culture in global commercialism.

There is a disdain in the modern commerical products world for the Latin alphabet and brand names spelled out using the Latin alphabet. There seems to be a demise in brand names with American or Anglo-Saxon namesakes. There is now a global disdain for western culture. McCulloch was the biggest...

Is this 1967 Browning Superposed a good dove gun?

$1,100 seems a modest price for a genuine Browning Superposed over/under in pretty-good shape. These in minty original shape typically are priced like some new compact automobiles. This particular gun has 26" barrels and fixed modified/improved cyclinder chokes. Made long before the days of...

Being an ambassador for the sport, how should one counter anti-hunting sentiments?

There may be some people who FROWN upon this sport but don't take active measures against hunting. Do you consider anti-hunters only anti-hunting activists? I met a young fellow in the Army who asked me why I would want to "kill animals" when hunting was brought up in conversation. There are...

Being an ambassador for the sport, how should one counter anti-hunting sentiments?

I once knew a man who claimed that "hunting was wrong" but that slaughtering domestic animals for meat was a "whole different thing". I then disengaged from the conversation not wanting to argue. If I were clever, I might have stated that wild game is much better for human health than most...

    Hunter harassment in the field.

More anti-hunting remarks: 1. I don't want to eat what I kill. Somebody always has to do their dirty work: kill their store-bought chicken, pork and beef. 2. Well, butchering domestic animals is different. I agree. Using a capative bolt pistol at the slaughterhouse is not nearly as much fun as...

    Hunter harassment in the field.

Somebody just has it in for the American hunter. Each and every way you slice it. Among stupid BLUE STATE game regs, FEES, anti-hunting/anti-gun wokeness, "Oh, those cute little doves are songbirds!", "Oh, those cute little Bambi deer!", the high cost of this sport, damfools in the field who...

Here is what appears to be a swell Colt Trooper revolver.

Classic royal blue finish over steel. 4" barrel. Ideal holster carry size. Ideal sidearm for American hunting for protection. .357 calber for hunting small deer at close range in some cases if you are a handgun hunter. The Trooper has target-style sights. By the slight finish wear on the top of...

    Hunter harassment in the field.

Then there is the issue of hunting on lands open/accesible to the public for hunting whether public or private. It's not like gold prospecting where one can stake claims. There might be a water hole on a walk-in property that preseason scouting might have indicated to be a "honey hole" for dove...

    Hunter harassment in the field.

Yes, good idea. Have the number to the local sheriff's department or state game warden handy on the phone. Have your phone camera ready to gather any evidence. Lawmen should be knowledgable regarding firearms laws and tresspass law. The state game officals know all the game rules and hunter...

    Hunter harassment in the field.

Has this happened to you ever as a law-abiding hunter? Has this happened to any other hunters you know? Is there a hotline to call in case of hunter harrassment in the field? I say hunters should man up and not bullied off legal and proper lands if harasssed. Stand your ground and bring unlawful...

Who here has dove hunted South Dakota in recent years?, How is the dove hunting in the Coyote State?

I ask because I'm on the verge of moving to Sioux Falls in the near future. I'm wondering if there are some decent public access places for dove there that could likely produce a limit. Dove season in SD runs from Sept. 1 thru Nov. 9. Long fall season before first snows fall. This video looks...

Who here owns one or more Golden retrievers?

Here are the top 20 dog breeds of today. Sadly, the Border Collie, Rough Collie (Lassie) and American Foxhound is not numbered here. Farmers used to love Foxhounds. Ranchers and sheepmen love collies of sorts. 1. Labrador retriever, GOOD DOG 2. French bulldog (useless as bull udders) 3...

Who here owns one or more Golden retrievers?

I love those soft, dark brown eyes. The Golden retriever also seems to have a gentler personality than the more popular Labrador. I am not a fan of light amber bird-of-prey eyes on dogs.
