Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

Well, go start lobbying to do away with our food industry/infrastructre… make sure to call everyone a fatass while you’re at it. Maybe in 50 years your hunting will get better on public land?

The “rest at home” part is severely lacking nowadays, unfortunately

Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

It’s funny… your post reminds me of all the jack heads advocating eating “caveman” diets and “primal” living. What’d the average caveman live to be, like 25? Average frontiersman, 35?

Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

Geezuz…. What a triggered fest. I think all Eric Albus was saying was that most of society produces nothing as far as FOOD. It does seem like we’ve become a nation that likes to bitch about where our food comes from…..at the same time with a full mouth.

Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

Agreed. Especially with the increased trend of good farmland now growing subdivisions. Industrial, highly specialized production becomes necessary.

Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

In all seriousness, the fee is too low, but it’s apples and oranges comparing grazing on most public land to that on private.

Grazing fees, the economics of elk and cattle

How much do hunters pay to hunt public land vs private?? How much do they overuse and abuse it? How many weeds do they spread? Are they being “subsidized” by the American taxpayer because the Dept of Interior doesn’t make money managing land for them?? Geezuz Christ, it must be wintertime….

Retrieval of game from private land in Montana

I generally avoid hunting up against private….especially archery. I just assume the landowner has seen it/heard it all before and is sour. I imagine an average guy in town would get equally as sour if strangers were constantly cutting through his backyard looking for a frisbee or football etc….

    6.5 CM, 6.5 PRC Enough/Effective for Elk?

I won a 6.5 prc last spring. Got it setup then went to shooting it. Liked it so much, I never took my 300win mag out of the safe this year. I shot several coyotes, 4 deer, and yes, a bull elk at 175 yards. It was plenty of gun. 140gr bullets. Killed elk with above mentioned 300 with 180gr...

Matt Rinella knocking it outta the park

While he’s not perfect, Matt Rinnella’s message is what makes the most sense to me nowadays. I liked all the outdoor media including Cam, back in the day. Loved this site 20yrs ago when the goofball from Idaho ran it. But, as time went on, it became obvious to me the main goal of those behind...
