I had an SHV, never had a single problem with it. Glass is great and the tracking was always perfect. I used Warne rings on that rifle with a built in 20 MOA rail, but I don't remember what height they were. If it were me, I'd buy the NF and never look back
Just joking around. I'm genuinely surprised you haven't seen it.
I personally love my old Marlin in .30-30. Easy to find Core Lokts, and they're pretty cheap and practical as far as lever rounds go. Unless you decide to go the box mag route (Savage 99 etc), then you can do better...
Another easily overlooked issue is the difference in bullet designs of the same weight. For example, a flat base bullet can potentially take up more combustion space in the case than a boat tail, or vice versa, depending on seating depth. So with everything else being equal, this will cause a...
Wow. Just seeing this thread for the first time. Amazing. I saw a lion while deer hunting a few weeks ago but just for a split second in thick timber. I would love to get one someday. Hard to imagine that cat probably killed 500 deer in its 10 year lifetime, and that one you found by that...
Very shallow crabby forks minus front right, not much for mass. Ear width and not very tall. He's a buck that looks ok at first glance or until you have him next to a big buck
@Ought Six , I agree for the most part, I don't think he's even 155 tho. 170 would be cool. He'd have to dodge some bullets or dislike the ladies for that to happen
Sorry if I derailed the original intent of this thread...
You could be right. We'll never know because he will never live that long anyway. Maybe this is another reason why MT has no mature mule deer anymore, because everyone thinks they can tell based on visual evidence only or that they top out at 4 years old.
All this has been hammered for 90 pages...
To me this is the mule deer equivalent to a 3 year old 4x4 whitetail. A lot of hunters nowadays would call it a trophy, or a huge buck. But in reality it's a young deer that needs to live 2 or 3 more years to reach that stage
But most hunters in Montana nowadays will shoot that deer every time...
I've only used the AMP Aztec, but it makes a huge difference and I would definitely recommend it if you shoot a lot. If you don't, the brass probably won't pay for it in the short term. My buddy has one and lets me use his, otherwise I'd be doing the poor man's method like SnowyMountaineer
Another idea I like from the Region 4 proposal: It was pointed out that 60% of hunters are content with opportunity over quality. So the idea was floated that each region could have a draw unit or two to help align with those numbers. And those 60% won't apply for the LE tags, since they don't...
I'm not trying to be a jerk. It just bothers me that we are shooting virtually every mule deer buck on the landscape at this point, because it's easy and legal. And yes, it does fall on FWP, and hard
