Last year two hunters (not together) got the shooting position to kill a ram and the same time. They did the rock paper scissors.....Best two out of three. My buddy lost but in the end everyone shot at the ram multiple times. It was quite the show!!!!!! My buddy didn't get the ram but...
I've only done it solo. I can't find anyone that wants to come along for the ride. It isn't the smartest thing but the sense of accomplishment is very high even if you don't kill anything.......or get killed. The adventure and personal growth is all part of the fun/misery.
It sounded like the guy has responded to many attacks/issues for years. I think the biologist might have been really encouraging me to bring bear spray......which I did the first year. Over that stuff.
Side note worth sharing. You are more likely to die from a black bear attack than a grizzly attack. If you get attacked by a black bear you need to fight to get them off of you. They tend to kill the person once they start attacking. With Grizzly bears you should protect yourself and...
It's very important to tell the difference between black bear and griz scat. Black bear scat will have plenty of berries and nuts. Griz scat will have bells in it and smell like bear spray. Very important safety tip!!!!!!!
We must hunt a different unit. I've seen bears every time I go hunt sheep. black and griz. To be honest the black bears are so big it is unreal. You can almost not see their legs. We saw one black bear and a guy I met up on the hill had a black bear tag. I mean this bear was an...
It's doable with a bow. 502 would be my last choice, 501 would be my second to last choice for using a bow. I would talk to the biologists in both areas (300's and 500's) and ask them about bear densities (yes everyone sees them. I have found they like to share a bit of you mountain house...
WOW!!!!! Might I give you a bit of advice. Take a rifle the first year (leave the bow because of weight) and assess your options for using a bow. Plus, the rifle will help you keep the bears in check. I think it could be done with a bow in the right location but that is a big...
OH DEAR!!!!!!! This has been discussed at length in AZ. I see both side to be honest. Now keep in mind that I've walked up to water sources and seen 15-20 cameras around the tank. There is so much human activity at some of these tanks that it really interrupts the game. It turns them...
Just bought the 115mm objective yesterday. Should be here in a few weeks. I'm for sure not dragging that up the hill but hey I'm going to use it on my AZ desert sheep hunt this year.
I personally think 15's are a must and a spotter. I bring the BTX with the 65 objective. It does give up a bit of light gathering. I guess I could use a bigger spotting scope but I will take my weight penalty with the BTX's over the 85mm objective. Everything has pluses and minuses...
Well AZ is a bit different that other states. The sheep typically rut in June/July in AZ. We have trail cam pics of rams coming to water sources and they were all crazy bloody from butting heads. It must have been crazy intense. There was blood all over their heads.
Well the game and fish states that this is the most physically demanding sheep hunt in the state. It isn't even in the same zip code as the UL's but the chances of killing a ram are about 99% better.
I haven't been scouting yet because you need to get permission to enter the area. Might...
