I carried my marlin almost every day of guiding career, love that rifle. Stuffed the case with RL7 behind a 400 grain Barnes buster. Topped with Skinner sights it was just plain handy.
I enjoy shooting her with a little softer load. Have fun it's a great cartridge.
Sell it. Go buy a Ruger 77. Perfect rifle for sliding around in the Western Oregon rain forest, stumbling through alder flats and getting caught in a devils club swamp. There is a reason you’ll see more Rugers than any other brand being toted around by old Alaska guides.
Good luck this year.
Just my luck; One small bull in this bunch, thought he was a spike x fork. Good crop of calves, at least 50%. I’ve talked to the rancher that owns that ground, there is a good size bachelor herd of bulls up there as well.
So far I haven’t heard any bugles but I’ve seen some animals starting to...
I like Shedhorn, lots of guns to look at but I’m not near as polite as you when some ass hat points a gun at me. Charlie thought I was a little high strung.
Been doing this for at least 20 years. Perhaps 10 years ago started double bagging to combat the occasional split bag. Will be trying the Mylar bags sounds like a great solution.
We are going to spend some quality time on them as well. Probably head south around the first of December, hunt into late February.
She’s never been stylish but her nose has always been solid. Couple of blue grouse couple of days ago.
