    Hit/lost bull

Most of the tracking problems I’ve helped resolve occurr when folks stop tracking when the blood stops and start grid searching. Some one mentioned getting on your hands and knees, absolutely. You’re running out of time if he’s down. Go back to the last blood. Go inch by inch looking at the...

    Bigger tiger trout.

Last month, I just read, the new Wyoming state record was set, Tiger Trout, 12.77 pounds 31.25 inches long. That fish also looked like it had potential to get bigger. Great looking fish.

    Bigger tiger trout.

I’ve caught a lot of big Char and Dollies in Alaska. Those fish look like they could readily reach 30 plus inches and weights in the teens. They just look like they want to kick someone’s butt.

Top college towns for trout bums

My best day on the river, perhaps 75 or 1976, we killed double limits of mallards and geese, 3 pheasants, a bunch of quail and I really don’t recall how many fish we pulled out running hotshots. Just shy of Corvallis we banged a real good blacktail buck. Actually got checked by the game warden...

Top college towns for trout bums

Raised my GPA at Oregon State by having a drift boat and a good working knowledge of the Alsea and the Siletz. Lived on venison, skim milk, salmon and steelhead in those days.

Active fires and hunting, whats your thoughts?

I’ve had good luck hunting right up to the edge of the burns during rifle season. The fires are done growing but still plenty of hot spots. The Teepee butte fire was the best for us. Early rains produced quite a bit of green up. The elk were all over it.

How many hunting rifles do you have?

Me, I like filling niches even if I could and pretty well have, hunted everything with an 06. It started with a .22-250 and ended on the other end with a .577 NE. Hell I even bought a couple 6.5 creedmores, still don’t see what the fuss is all about there. I shoot at least once a week, normally...

    Short and sad Alaskan summer.

One need only to look at the ADFG website to marvel at the once great rivers being reduced or closed to retention to recognize there is legitimate concern over most of Alaska. That POW remains viable is indeed a blessing.
