Just th
inking about this. I'm 77yrs old and have hunted new York, Oregon Colorado, Montana and Alaska and have never had a hunting license checked! Big game, small game and birds!
Seeing all the stuff you see is simply seeing human beings being human beings. I see it and don't care for it either but how you gonna change it? There are a lot of multiple time offenders out there doing these things! It's a human trait I believe! Not found in all of them for sure!
I've only ever killed 6 elk, all cows. I hunt to fill the freezer. Was thinking about this bull problem you guys are talking about and got me to thinking. I wonder just how many really trophy bulls are out there and how long does it take to grow one. Could it be your hunting them all out and...
I think everyone should start on iron sight's and work their way up to scopes. I've run into a good number of hunter's over the years that have never shot open sight's. Scope goes down and they are pretty much finished!
I was going to say I don't remember but think I do. Stationed in Germany I was the unit small arms NCO. had a whole storage bin full of Mi carbines to choose from and sure that probably took down my first deer! Today I need a scope to shoot, 78 yr old eyes ain't what they used to be!
I use different manuals quite a bit when I find a powder I want to use with a certain weight bullet. Trick is first check for pressure. I load one round each of the different data starting at starting load in the manual I'm using and work up to one grain over max. After each round I look for...
I sent in a 4 1/2x14 for repairs when they first started that deal. Got the scope on sale for $200 and Nikon allowed me $400+ on it. Got a nice set of 8x binos and replaced the scope with a 3-9x Redfield.
Nice looking bow! Love re-curves and used to shoot one quite a bit. But was never good enough to consider hunting big game with one. Did get a few hare's with one while stationed in Germany though. Had a 54 lb Herter's Sitka Mag and only used cedar arrows. Don't care for those compound bows at...
Guarantee If prices on powder and bullet's ever come down I'm hording! have about 30k LR primer's stuck away and lifetime supply of cartridge case's for the rifles I shoot now. Hording I think is largely responsible for the shape we are in but if that's the only way to stay active then I'm going...
ya know checking zero every year is not something I did much of. Seems hunting season started about the time target shooting ended and then target season started again about the time hunting season ended. That was a long time ago and I shot a lot more than now. have a 2 3/4x Denver Redfield on...
Well I'm not gonna add anything important. I've got 7 rifles, 6 shotguns and about 7 handguns. Don't shoot my handguns that much so could make do easily with just one handgun! For rifles, my most used for hunting is a toss up right now between my 6.5x55 and my 260 Rem. Actually can hunt anything...
Last stock I did was a 700 BDL and I tried a new way to remove the old finish. Finish remover. Read about it and sounded reasonable. No scraping or sanding to remove old finish. But on that 700 the finish really fought being removed although it finally did come all off. Another thing I did on it...
So what is the reason for going from a 30-06 to a 338-06? I think the 30-06 with a 200gr bullet and less will make a deer very dead, obviously the 338-06 will do the same. What the 338 has that the 30cal doesn't is heavier bullets! I'd though about a 338-06 at one time and was thinking an elk...
That is really nice but I have a strong suggestion. Ge a set of light weight curtains to block the sun. The sun destroys things given enough time, Lots of bright shadows coming off those mounts!
About that Leupold warrantee. While living in Alaska I met a guy using a Leupold he got for free from Leupold. Claimed he found one in a river up there and fished it out, trash. But he sent it to Leupold and they sent him a brand new scope for it! He wasn't drinking at the time so could be true!
