Live from the Cutover -- The 2nd Annual Poor-Boys-Public-Land-Hunt-Club New Year's Day Deer Drive

No deer jumped so far. One big rabbit was jumped. My turn to walk so I'm about to push through this:

Live from the Cutover -- The 2nd Annual Poor-Boys-Public-Land-Hunt-Club New Year's Day Deer Drive

The shirttail boy is with Nani and Pops and I've got the wind behind me. Beautiful morning, seen quite a few deer in the fields. Hopefully they go to bed soon so we can jump them up.

Live from the Cutover -- The 2nd Annual Poor-Boys-Public-Land-Hunt-Club New Year's Day Deer Drive

Last year, a buddy and I went on the last day of our season and did some deer driving. It was only the two of us, so we had pretty limited success but we did manage to jump a couple deer. No shots were fired though. This year, we decided to give it another go but to invite more people so that...

    Americas top long-range Shooting School

Can you teach me how to blow the leg off a mule deer buck at 700 yards without ranging so that I can then go steal it from another hunter?

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

First coats of paint and Danish oil are on. Did a test fit with the footboard once they were dry to the touch. Very happy overall.

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

Got a few days off so I decided to complete a project that I started last year. The plan for this bed was supposed to involve a lot of woodworking. I have all the wood sitting in the shed but I just don't have the time to mess with getting it all dimensioned and usable, so I decided to order...

    Matt Rinella is categorically confused

Oh look, another Matt Rinella thread. Surely this one will end in an agreement of all parties.

Yep, mild winters on the coastal plain plus abundant food and cover means some big ol bears.

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

Not a family business, but my boss (the only other person in the business) is a friend that we go to church with. Several reasons to stay with how things are. 1) I really don't have the skillset to break out. I've made a lot of progress and am pretty confident in my ability as a welder, but...

A North Carolina Fox Squirrel Hunt

I'm resurrecting this thread because, almost a year to the date, I went trophy hunting again and killed another color phase of fox squirrel. Today's hunt consisted of the same two locations, I had a buddy with me this time though. Our first sit was where I killed the squirrel last year. We let...

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

Boss got a call in the middle of a job yesterday from a new plant needing something built in a hurry. We showed up at 0830 today, took measurements, drew up a sketch, and got it built. I took care of the frame and boss did the sheet metal work.

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

Appreciate it. I've still got plenty to learn but it's cool to do stuff that I know I wouldn't have been able to last year.

    Metalworking Hunttalkers!

Been on several different projects recently. Forklift barrier in the cooler at a plant, repiped some tank connections, building more stainless pans to collect hydraulic oil, and some hose stands.

Did you shoot your first deer with open sights?

I've killed all my big game animals with scoped rifles. Plan on teaching my boy on a scoped setup too. I really don't see a reason not to.

    Sh*t our kids do

The other day we were driving home and something got mentioned about a deer. My son (2.5) goes "Daddy, you kill deer. You kill deer and put in your backpack. Dat big deer fall over." I was beaming with pride.
