I have tried the all copper bullets and my issue with them was copper fouling in my barrel that degraded accuracy after only 20-30 rounds. I have seen a TSX dug out of a wild boar that had a petal bent into the hollow point that failed to open, even so the boar was dead. My preference is more to...
They can spout all the drivel they want about steel being just as good as lead (physics say it isn’t) but you can’t argue with Sir Isaac Newton. Steel shot is why I gave up waterfowl hunting. I just couldn’t stand seeing all those injured birds get away to die a slow lingering death. I enjoy...
In my area of NY we were limited to shotgun only for big game. My gun of choice was an Ithica Deerslayer in 20 gauge. My small game go to was a Franchise Falconet also in 20 gauge. Both put a lot of meat in the freezer.
I found a Marlin 336 in 35 rem wearing a 1.5x5 Leopold scope in see through mounts for $500. The scope is worth almost as much as the gun. All I had to do to it was change out those see through mounts.
Should have signed up with MP’s we got to carry ammo in all our weapons. Not chambered of course. My favorite battle rifle was the German G3 in a real 308 caliber not a damn varmint caliber.
Couldn’t agree more. My 3 favorites. Top is CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 for lions and tigers and bears (oh my).Middle is the all time best classic stalking rifle Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1905 in 9x56, and bottom is Ruger 77 RSI in the classic savage 250-3000.
Several years ago I was. Moose hunting in Minnesota near Baudette and while sitting over a bog with a large pile of stone behind me. I got the eerie feeling something was watching me and I turned my head to look behind me. There on top of the rock pile stood a large wolf looking at me. We looked...
I have used both the pop up style and homemade burlap with stake and shot deer from both but my prference is a folding stool with my back to a tree where I can see 360 degrees. I have shot many deer this way. There is a time and place for each and I enjoy them all.
For me that choice would depend on what I was hunting. My only remington is a 102 year old model 14 pump rifle in 30 remington. Not pretty but a great hunting rifle.
