Today was day one Free State, South Africa. Did 12 miles on foot chasing springbuck around, went one for two. It was surprisingly challenging, had a great time and would recommend it. The hunt continues tomorrow- jt13

Hunted pronghorn out there a couple times 5 / 6 years ago. There's two places that rent cabins and RV spots, Grass Creek Ranch (now SonShine?) and Horseworks. Get a Absoroka Front HMA permit for access to private along Grass Creek Rd. Grass Creek Rd will take you to the NF land. -

Well that's a pretty convincing argument from someone who's experienced all the options. What's foliage like in North Maine during that time frame? Hunting mostly along roads or has it thinned out enough to get into the woods? I have only driven through Maine once, no hunting experience there.- jt13

A consideration is that most public land is closed to NRs for that week. It'd have to be private or reservation land. Makes the pheasant option less attractive at face value. Might need to do more digging- jt13
