    Beach/family fishing trip

My mother’s entire side of the family goes to the Myrtle Beach area for a week in July every year. When I was a little fella my dad, brother, me, and some cousins did a bunch of cheap party boat fishing with about 50-75 people on the boat and it was fun. Caught a variety of smaller fish but not...

    Spring bear

I’ve been having the itch for a while now. My brother, a few buddies, and I are going in May. It should be quite the adventure.

    Deer Heart and Liver Recipes

I just started keeping the heart a couple years ago but haven’t kept a liver back yet. My favorite is searing them in plenty of butter. Cut them into 2 steaks by following the seam on the heart. Trim away all the valves and connective tissue. Add whatever seasonings you would like. Sear 2-4...

I’ve really enjoyed reading Africa Game Trails by Teddy Roosevelt.

    Plate ‘em up

Turkey leg bbq with mac n cheese, garden corn and green beans plus a piece of corn bread. I put Grippo’s bbq dry rub on the legs, bacon wrapped them, and added a 1/2 cup each of apple cider vinegar, sprite, and bbq sauce. Turn crock pot on low for 8 hours then enjoy.

    Best bino under $700

I was looking for a set in your price range this summer. I ended up with the Leupold BX-4 10x42 for $425 after reading a bunch of different reviews and threads here. I’ve never looked through high end glass but I have no complaints with them. They work well in low light, focus knob is smooth...

    Indiana deer hunting.

https://www.themeateater.com/hunt/whitetail-deer/photos-this-buck-might-crush-the-indiana-state-record I had some pictures of this deer sent to me from a family friend, then I found this write up on meat eater. Looks like it will be the new state record.

    Indiana deer hunting.

Got this one last week, not huge but too good to pass up. The bucks have really started moving this week down here in the southeast corner. Currently attempting my first euro mount

How old is your Buck 110 ?

I got one as a present 5 years ago. I go through spurts of using it but enjoy using it every time I do.

    Anybody watching the MLB playoffs?

That might be the least fun way for a game to end, let alone one of this caliber between the best 2 teams in baseball.

    Favorite Wildlife Watching moment.

Here’s my favorites: -Last summer two buddies and I were trout fishing in Yellowstone NP trying to catch some dinner. We’d been at it for a few hours without much luck. We drove down to a hole my cousin told me to try but after many casts we were about to head back to camp. Then 3 otters come...

Driving Elk or Deer Meat Cross-Country

I usually leave deer meat quartered or deboned in a cheap igloo 100 qt cooler for 1-2 weeks at a time. I put a healthy amount of ice and make sure to layer. Lightly salt the meat as well. I keep the cooler in the shade and drain every few days. Sometimes the temps are up into the 80s and may...

    SXS or ATV

We’ve had a Polaris ranger for 5 years now and had an ATV for 10 years before that. We got more use out of the SxS in the first few months than the entire time with the ATV. If there are youngsters that are going to ride a SxS is the only option I’d be comfortable with. Plus having a windshield...

    Too much success, too early?

I don’t have any qualms about a new hunter shooting a big animal. Most new hunters I know are happy to shoot the first legal animal they see and if it happens to be a big one good for them. Having a memorable outdoor experience is the goal though. I think what matters more is how the people...

    Smoke Phase Eastern

Had this smoke phase hen 30 yards off my deck this morning. I’ve seen a few around over the years but usually in the winter when they are flocked up. And I’ve only seen hens with this color phase, never a tom. This one seems to have made its summer range right around home this year.

    8yr starting out shooting

I’d say go with the scope if he’s comfortable with that. Seeing tangible results boosts confidence, but make sure he’s still having fun shooting with the scope.
