Currently trying to decided if I should get myself the mid sized truck I want or if I should do the smart thing and get my wife a new mom vehicle. I know this forum hates subarus but the back of an outback is big enough for a muley so I’m good with that
Don’t want to come as anything but helpful, but is that the gun that had the rough bedding job? I don’t remember if you fixed that, but if not then I’d recommend grinding all of the epoxy out and redoing it
Accuracy and velocity was poorer than I was realistically expecting. Again, the heavy bullets were great. The 169gr Hammer Hunter was the best of the tests from that particular rifle.
Yeah, if I’m hunting in western KS then I prefer a light bullet going fast and flat. For the east I’ll bump it...
Loaded one with a friend, shot it afterwards. We used 120-175 gr bullets of various types and, in my opinion, the PRC is underwhelming with the lighter stuff and very good with the heaviest. Like I said, one trick pony.
I used to own a 444 marlin in a Marlin. It’s one of the guns I wish I had back. I had it cut from 22” to 19”. That thing was awesome.
That being said, with TC being brought back we may see a return of the JDJ at some point. The new owner is very involved.
There once was a gunsmith I talked to who took 336s and converted them to 375 JDJ. I got to shoot one of his recently and it thumped hard and misted watermelons. Great round.
I have decided that mid size is the way to go for this guy. Full size trucks are just larger than I like. The Colorado/Canyon is at the top of my list because the crew cab backseats are spacious enough for rear facing carseats and I can also get the long bed version.
Got this used edge fill McMillan Rem Classic for a song. Grinded out all the old bedding, opened up the barrel channel, and rebedded. Filed out all the overrun from the epoxy. Fits great.
When I had mine rebarreled, I dropped it off at the smith and he took the old barrel off in front of me to get a grasp of what was going on. I took back the barrel and all the parts he didn’t need for the job.
I found a 2018 Sierra for a pretty good deal. I think it was an old company work truck and the car fax has 100 entries with routine maintenance. Might be test driving it soon
I’ve all but got the green light to replace my hyundai elantra with a better vehicle for me. I do not want to buy a brand new, 40k+ truck, so I’ll go to the used market. I either want a mid size crew cab, or 1500 series double/crew. What do you look for when heading into the pre-ownes market?
I just had a bunch of technical information to ask him about the 118 hht and he seemed almost excited to talk about it with me. That’s something you will not find anywhere else
Also, getting a box of 118 HHTs for my 280 AI. Max load should be over 3500 with H100V.
