Interesting. I’d do a solo deer hunt, but I think elk I’d want to go guided or with a friend. I’d be happy hunting whitetail or mule deer out there. I kind of imagined saving the deer points to do a horseback guided camp some day, but maybe I should re-consider that -

Cartridge for 18" barrel?
I have a model seven in 7mm-08 with an 18” barrel. That was my first deer rifle and I still enjoy shooting it. Definitely kicks harder than my 06 Tikka just because of the lightweight and short barrel, but it’s a great gun to carry. -

Our camp is aging out but this year was another fun one. I’m only in my 30s and hope to keep the tradition going whether it’s back in Maine or closer to where I live in PA. It’s too bad we don’t see camps like these very often.- Mainer207

Deer - lets see em
Not an impressive deer by any means, but I got my first archery kill this season. My buddy’s weren’t thrilled with the hard drag. Next time I’ll definitely be putting deer in the Mystery Ranch… -
New Tire Opinions
I have not been very impressed when I’m in mud or on ice. I don’t think any tire is good on ice though, so I’ll let that slide. New Tire Opinions
I run KO2s and they’ve been good. I don’t have a ton of AT tire experience, so I might try ST Maxx next just for a comparison. Although, the KO2 rides on the pavement the same as any highway tire I’ve had on a truck…maybe I don’t notice the extra noise because I never ride without the radio playing.- Mainer207

Sleeping in truck or tent
Twin mattress in the cap worked well for me this year. The elevated platform is crucial for storage. Just be sure to have a tarp so you can wrap your deer in it and not get blood all over your bed…- Mainer207

I found one buried in a tree along the dirt road that my old cabin was on. Im assuming someone shot at a deer from a quad. Hope the bastard missed, as they would’ve been shooting into posted property and from a road. -

First Lite Jacket Setup
I mostly hunt whitetails from a stand, but I run the catalyst soft shell and when the temperatures dip I layer the brooks down sweater underneath. The brooks is very delicate, but it fits under the soft shell better than the uncompahgre will- Mainer207
