More planning for AK Moose:
If Alaska airlines charges $100 for 100lb oversize baggage......how big an ice box is needed for 100lbs meat?.........I have some GIANT boxes I will obvoisly not take....but what size is right? 75Qt? 100 Qt? 120qt?

If you have a good supply of live birds to train with, pointers are a great way to go. If no live birds readily available. i'd go with a lab (Field lines bred) because you can use bumpers, dummies, dead ducks and so on to train marking falls and retrieves. Once that is all set in to their heads...
Do interval training and long distance running on different days to get the lungs needed for 10k+ feet. plus the gym workouts. if ya cant get the O2 to the muscles they dont work.

How do you used the hatchet? Do you cut the backstrap off, then whack the top of the ribs away from the spine? Do Tell!
I wasnt sure how to go about the backstraps.....bone in or boneless for care/cooling...
You all are awesome. I have used a wyoming saw for elk rear legs for 2 decades, but mine fell out of the pack last year.....
We will have a 50lb limit on this trip. I would LOVE to bring a cordless sawsall, but not so sure about the weight, then a comealong too??? maybe ill leave my sleeping...
Not rear-legs ? how about leaving the ham string attached for hanging? I usually cut a few inches below the knee to keep the ham string for hanging elk legs...How do you handle the rear legs?

We pulled the trigger on a drop camp for moose in Alaska. What saw, if any do you take for breaking down a moose. Keep in mind, we are hunting a unit where we have too take the moose legs out bone in, rib cage too.
Any pointers welcome!

No rocks, sticks or boomerangs?......oh well....Subsonic .22 would be my go to.....the longer the barrel the more quiet. About as loud as an air rifle but from a .22 rifle, going about 600fps, which is like an intermediate speed from a pellet rifle like the old sheridan.....it will definitely...

Well, you are going to have a tough time beating that, but thats all the reason to keep going. Great way to work that from scouting to harvesting and write-up.
