We just did a similar trip. Western MT through Portland and down the OR coast to the redwoods, past Yosemite and back through Nevada. We stayed at hipcamps for most of it. The redwoods are mind blowing. One piece of advice is to stick to the redwood state parks instead of national parks. Just as...
Man, there is just something so grounding about the way you articulate the daily. Always reminds me to look out the window and take a deep breath. Thanks, Hank, and glad to hear alls well!
I like thinking about this, but have to admit that I’m paralyzed by the relativity of it. I think, ultimately, what my dad (and consequently, I) tried to avoid is instilling a brittle spirit. In other words, easy come, easy go.
There are so many facets of life today that are relatively easy...
Thanks for the tips, guys! We actually ended up at lake Mary Ronan and did more swimming and screwing around than fishing. Only a couple bites on the weekend, but I wouldn’t say we really gave it a go.
Headed up to Flathead this weekend for my kid’s seventh birthday. We just have a 4-person raft that I’ll be puttering around on. The kids love fishing whether we catch anything or not, so regardless of the futility of my quest we’ll be giving it a whirl.
I’m wondering, though, if anyone has...
I shoot elk with a 150 gr, buddy shoots them with a 130 gr. I think he has killed more, but I don’t know whose got a better avg. a good shot with any .270 round will kill an elk. Depending on your kid’s size and flinchyness, I’d go 130
You set the bar so high with the first picture. I couldn't help but be disappointed when the van made no more appearances.
And let's be honest...a guy pulls up in a circa 1995 minivan with a donut on and no kids and claims he's hunting. At some point you have to accept that the hat wasn't the...
I always judge hard on the apparent attitude of a dog toward its owner. Sometimes it leads me astray, but not often. I’d say it’s a good standard in this instance.
Great season, man. Happy you got an elk. Bummer on the deer.
I’ve only seen this guy once since he hardened up. Coincidentally, my wife just sent me a pic of him this morning on her way to hike. Here are a couple more, post velvet. These town deer have it made. Enough food, water, tail, and refuge to live long, happy lives as long as they don’t mind the...
In times like this!?
I have no idea what it feels like to work as hard as this to fill a tag. One season I elk hunted 37 days and thought I was cool. This is incredible.
@Greenhorn was there anything in that group of rams that got you a little itchy? If I ever draw a sheep tag, I’m going to...
Ugh. I’m starting to love hunt talk again and stories like this are why. Nice work and great story.
Have @Ben Lamb lobby for a stormy kromer version of that hat and you’d be the Dalai Lama of Montana
