I haven’t given it any serious thought, you don’t hunt them over dogs which is a bit of a nonstarter for me. I personally believe that ptarmigan in the lower 48 deserve that title. You hunt them with dogs and shoot them at 11-12k. I shot a few in September under those conditions.
Got into a lot of birds on day one in NV, mostly chukar but also a covey or two of huns. Only ended with one bird, mostly poor shooting, but they were also getting up further out than ideal. Still an epic day.
Had a fun trip, weather was great, a hair warm and I finally found my target species (scalies). That being said I never feel like I figured it out, drove 100s of miles and hiked a good portion, and finally found one covey on the last day. That being said, on the birds we did find the dog work...

I’m taking two 20 gauges. Nothing too special, a semi (Franchi affinity) and SxS (CZ Sharptail) both with wood furnishings. I have an affinity 12 gauge plastic I take for chukar and waterfowl.
