5 minutes to salmon and Dungeness crab fishing, 1 hour to skiing, 2 hours to Roosevelt elk and black tail in one direction, 2 hours to mule deer and rocky mtn elk in the other direction, just to name a few. Well worth it for a few city warts imo…
Worked:
-new hunting rig (below). No issues with terrain, range, etc. did not expect to ever use the camp mode but ended up sleeping in it three different nights after getting to the trailhead late. Sure beats one more night in the cold tent plus dint have to unpack and repack all that stuff...
Actually, it wasn’t useful in that one instance either come to think of it. Trying to get in touch with hunting partners to help track while I was down in a bowl with bad satellite coverage. Had trouble getting inreach messages out. Was able to get Apple messages out but my buddies never got...
After my recent backcountry trip, the problem with the new Apple feature is it does not push messages to your phone unless you actively have the feature running and are pointing the phone towards a satellite. This basically limits you to one way communication unless you stand in the same spot...
Any guesses on how much increase in battery drainage (and need for more charges) using this feature this would cause? Any more/less/equal total power need than having a separate device?
You really just have to go and find out for yourself. They could be deep, could be right off the trail, or neither.
In my experience in CO where I’ve hunted, the majority of elk I found are closer to the trailhead and main trails than they are far in. You’ll have to find the happy medium...
Skunked again! For the second year in a row, hiked way thr hell back in where only the outfitters are, to see not enough elk to justify the outfitter and drop camp pressure. For the second year in a row, returned to the truck after a few days and hunted from there, saw more hikers but also more...
It’s totally up to you, but I doubt you’re going to want to spend the time as well as the resources (fuel, water) to make 3 dehydrated meals a day. Not to mention those peak meals are $$$
I’ve found that most people do one a day, usually at night
Think you're right on the cow tags.
My question is, whenever they stop selling tags for a unit (whether that be the day before the season or whenever), how many tags are available still, if any? They don't seem to publish that info as far as I can tell.
Yeah I saw that but that is the stats after the primary draw. I'm interested in the number of tags sold per hunt code when all is said and done, meaning after the secondary/leftover draws, etc
Do they post anywhere final numbers of tags sold by hunt code? That is, final number of tags after secondary draw, leftover runs, etc.
There’s only a handful of cow tags available in the unit I have experience in, want to make sure a bull tag would be a good back up since I’d rather have a cow...
