Worked:
-new hunting rig (below). No issues with terrain, range, etc. did not expect to ever use the camp mode but ended up sleeping in it three different nights after getting to the trailhead late. Sure beats one more night in the cold tent plus dint have to unpack and repack all that stuff...
Actually, it wasn’t useful in that one instance either come to think of it. Trying to get in touch with hunting partners to help track while I was down in a bowl with bad satellite coverage. Had trouble getting inreach messages out. Was able to get Apple messages out but my buddies never got...
After my recent backcountry trip, the problem with the new Apple feature is it does not push messages to your phone unless you actively have the feature running and are pointing the phone towards a satellite. This basically limits you to one way communication unless you stand in the same spot...
Any guesses on how much increase in battery drainage (and need for more charges) using this feature this would cause? Any more/less/equal total power need than having a separate device?
You really just have to go and find out for yourself. They could be deep, could be right off the trail, or neither.
In my experience in CO where I’ve hunted, the majority of elk I found are closer to the trailhead and main trails than they are far in. You’ll have to find the happy medium...
Skunked again! For the second year in a row, hiked way thr hell back in where only the outfitters are, to see not enough elk to justify the outfitter and drop camp pressure. For the second year in a row, returned to the truck after a few days and hunted from there, saw more hikers but also more...
It’s totally up to you, but I doubt you’re going to want to spend the time as well as the resources (fuel, water) to make 3 dehydrated meals a day. Not to mention those peak meals are $$$
I’ve found that most people do one a day, usually at night
Think you're right on the cow tags.
My question is, whenever they stop selling tags for a unit (whether that be the day before the season or whenever), how many tags are available still, if any? They don't seem to publish that info as far as I can tell.
Yeah I saw that but that is the stats after the primary draw. I'm interested in the number of tags sold per hunt code when all is said and done, meaning after the secondary/leftover draws, etc
Do they post anywhere final numbers of tags sold by hunt code? That is, final number of tags after secondary draw, leftover runs, etc.
There’s only a handful of cow tags available in the unit I have experience in, want to make sure a bull tag would be a good back up since I’d rather have a cow...
For a backcountry, backpacking in by foot hunt would you go with gaiters (paired with a water resistant pant), rain pants, both or neither?
I’ve been on two western elk hunts. One where we got caught in a blizzard and I was glad I had gaiters and rain pants. Of course that was packing with...
Scheels is an interesting place...the one here is like a cross between how cabelas used to be with a Walmart and generic sporting goods store like Dicks, etc. Not to mention the animatronic presidents (??) scattered throughout, the Ferris wheel, and big aquarium.
But for my liking (and I assume...
Because there are far more variables that go into the housing inventory than just death rate at a given time.
My guess is due to the financial uncertainty of COVID, loss of jobs, etc many are afraid to spend money to buy a new house and thus accordingly aren’t going to put their house on the...
Kansas runs until the end of May. Haven’t experienced the public in that part of the state, but there are quite a few properties enrolled in WIHA program you could check out. https://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/Locations/Hunting-Fishing-Atlas/Hunting-Atlas
Had to get out of the house this weekend since it was for sale and being shown, so decided to take the opportunity to travel to western Kansas to chase a Rio, a new subspecies for me.
Totally new properties for me, so knew opportunities may be slim. First morning I picked a spot I’d seen a...
I have the same gun, it is super accurate and a pleasure to shoot. However, I think 300 yards on an elk is not realistic. The gun may be reasonably accurate there, but the bullet will not have near enough energy to take an elk down. Most stick to around 100 yards +\- as a maximum.
You could go...
