  • New to the site am planning a spring bear hunt. Looking at unit 39. April 26-may 2? Good timing? Access? Any info would be appreciated.

So the more research I have done it looks like every other out of state hunter goes to this unit and the bears get a lot of pressure? Should I focus on another unit? We can only go the last weekend of April. Want to hike in and stay for 5 days.

Unit 39 is by far the unit that I have harvested most of my bears in. I don’t see other hunters while I am out.
New to this site, hopefully sending you a private message. I’m a retire AF DAV and live in Oregon and looking to expand my hunting, more specifically spring bear. If you are willing to chat, I’d like to ask some questions about Idaho. If not, that ok too. Thanks for the consideration, Phil

That’s cool, I’ll have to look at the topography to see the steepness, these old bones can’t take too much, appreciate it. So mid may is a dart on the wall for normal snowfall year? That’s the time frame for our mountains, of course there are bears lower. Thank you.

I have shot bears on the opener and I have seen bears the last week of season. Many of your bears will stay denned up in April. June, you will start to battle the summer weather,
