    2024 Colombian Blacktail Buck

Rifle season for the area I live in opens super early in August, when its peak summer. I was fortunate to have a break in the hot weather early in the season. I knew this would be a good time to focus on. The morning started out slow. I didn't see any dear on the hike into my spot. I moved...

    Sporstmans Warehouse, What Happened?

The store near me has tons of open space that used to be full. Not a good sign and little competition in my area.

    How long?

I will be hunting Bull Elk on Sept 1st in NV with my smoke pool. Heading out August 2nd to do some scouting and confirm research. Still not sure when the peak of the rut typically happens in northern NV. Been thinking about nothing but elk since I drew. Can't wait to hear bugles!

Anybody else muzzleloader hunting this year

I pulled a NV bull elk tag during Sept with a MZ. Last time I drew a MZ tag I borrowed a rifle from a friend. I'm thinking of purchasing my own this time. Currently looking at a CVA Accura LR.

throwing good app money after bad and repeat

I've been applying in other states for over 15 years now. Many things have changed since I started and so has my outlook on the process. Back then I thought DIY hunting public land and learning all the different states was the only way to go. Even looked down on guided hunting at times. My...

    Muley Freak in trouble?

I watched the video of his appeal case and he went into the same area multiple times even after being warned by a game Warden. He clearly knew he was trespassing.

    Neck shots.

IMO neck shots are the best if you can do it. They drop and don't risk the shoulder meat. Many times when shooting in the boiler room the exit wound destroys the opposite shoulder. If there close and I feel good I will take a neck shot.

    2024 Nevada Draw Results

To my absolute shock I somehow drew my first NV tag after 14 years. I beet the sub %1 odds and drew a NON RES Muzzle-loader Bull Elk tag during the rut! 062, 064, 066 - 068 Antlered Bull September 01, 2024 - September 16, 2024 I will be calling some buddies ASAP to come along and help...

    Wyoming deer Special draw odds??

The change in odds for deer and antelope will be much more significant. For me, I am in it for the meat and so are many others. There is just not enough meat on the bone to justify a $1,200 lope tag.

    2024 Nevada Draw Results

Ive been applying in NV for 14 years and have 12 points for D A and E. When I first started applying it looked like I would be able to draw a upper level Antelope tag in 5-8 years. Those same tags for me now will be much longer if ever. Looking at lower end units and the best I can come up with...

    WY Price Hike Implications

I believe no change in the top 1/3rd of units for all species, but their will be change in the middle tier of units and dramatic change in the lower units. Some of the lower units will be able to be drawn with little points as they are not worth the price hike of the special to most. And that...

What was your first big game rifle, and do you still have it?

I saved up money when I was 16 for a Rem model 700 in 30-06. The trigger came set at 9ibs. Once I had the trigger smoothed to 3ibs it shot sub moa. I still have it and use it. I have taken 19 big game animals with it.
