wyoming whitetail?

So Im b.s.ing with my 14yr old daughter tonight about tags this year and she says she wants to hunt whitetail more than anything else this year. Well of course down here in cheyenne there is pretty much no access on all the private ground. I grew up on the other side of the state so this side is pretty much out of my area of expertise .Does anybody have any suggestions on where to start lookng I know the sundance area has pretty good numbers but is a ton of private as well. Is there any such thing as public land whitetail in Wyoming

Yes, and its an under-hunted resource IMO.

I've hunted the Sundance area and Buffalo/Sheridan areas. I think you need to take a closer look at a map of the Black Hills...lots of public.

The public land around Sheridan is pretty limited, but with some research you can find places to hunt even there.

I've shot 3 WT bucks in Wyoming, all of them on public land. I think I'm going to make a better effort this year (if I dont find a mule deer) to hunt them right. The 3 I shot were taken while I was passing through on my way to Montana for elk/deer hunts. I didnt invest even a full day between all 3.

I wouldnt count out some of the State lands near Cheyenne either....

Very cool thanks Buzz like I say this just barely came up tonight so i still need to get out the maps and stuff but I thought the sundance area was pretty locked up that's good to hear. I'm gonna swing by g&f tomorrow and pick up the walk in area map book and see whats around here as well.

Meeteetse Has a good population of white tail as well and lots of public land and also the Pitchfork HMA only downfall is that the draw is around 40 or 50 %

not much if any walkin areas around sundance....their is plenty of public ground....get a good map public/private
