Forgive me if this is not specifically about elk, but for me, right now it is: I'm wondering if there's an easy way to look at land ownership in Wyoming via a county/state website, or via maps that can be ordered. Is there a map where one can look up who owns a particular piece of private land? Where I live, this is easily accomplished through the county website, so just wondering if there's an equivalent in Wyoming? Thanks!

Google the county and then "Mapserver". At least a few Wyoming counties have one. I'm not sure if all of them do. I also use OnX.

OnX. But if you are simply looking for ownership information as in private vs. public you can google up something like "Wyoming ELK GMU 39 Map MyTopo" and see a useful map for that unit to determine the amount and distribution of public and private lands. And if you decide to hunt the unit then buy the map. I find the paper maps to be useful compliments to my onx map.

Each county has a map server showing ownership, but the user friendliness varies by county. Onx shows the same info and is very easy to use.

Thanks all. I have an OnX chip for my gps, but should probably just get a subscription this year, since I'm heading out this Fall. I'll check the county websites too.

For the actual hunt, I always order BLM maps. I typically use them a fair amount when I'm hunting. That's not to say I don't use OnX on my phone because I do a ton but the BLM always come in handy at times too. Forest Service maps as well.

I have a lot of FS maps that I've drawn GMU boundaries on with a sharpie. Anymore though, if I'm going to a new area I typically buy a unit map from mytopo.com.

I still use my GPS/OnX most of the time in the field, but still like to have a big paper map to spread across the truck hood if needed.

All of the maps mentioned have good info but for landowners names I would go right to the source at the county level. OnX can be and is wrong in some small spots, I suspect others have similar issues.
County assessors office has each landowners name on record and most counties in Wyoming have an online mapping service with the names, some small counties do not have an interactive map but plat maps .
