wyoming elk area 6 must read!!!!

any of you guys have an elk tag for area 6 you need to contact the game and fish I got stopped by a deer hunter yesterdaywho said a game warden told him no elk hunting the national forest or your poaching .I laughed and said yeah right just a jealous guy without the elk tags and call game and fish to check was told nope you're good then heard it again today from another deer hunter I went to headquarters and found out that's due to an oversight in rifle regulation change so there's no bowhunting on national forest so please contact game and fish before any of us get in trouble they are trying damage control right now but there's a laramie game warden going to bust people .they're sending out a letter to the tag holders to buy back o u r tags if we want .11 years to draw now I can't bow hunt I'm sooooooo mad

Bad Assumptions

If you(anyone who reads this post) do decide to talk to other hunters hunting on national forest in area 6 where you see elk in the vicinity please do not assume they are hunting for elk there. There are those of us, who have other game species tags to fill in that area. It never hurts to ask.

Guess I'm not following I was just.getting the info out to the elk. Hunters it wasn't meant to harass the deer or goat hunters

This morning I got stopped by an elk hunter and he just blantently told me there "There is no bow hunting in area 6" he never asked what I was hunting for he just assumed because there was elk running everywhere that is what I was hunting. So I was just trying to get the word out to other elk hunters so they don't harass or seem like they are harrasing other hunters. Hoping that by posting on this form I might save somone an angry encounter in the future.
If it happens to me before the bow season ends someone is getting a lovely send off from me. Thats why I put the (anyone who reads this post behind) behind "you". Sorry for the confusion don't have a degree in english.

Ohh I.got ya no worries. I'm surprised he felt he had to stop you cause we all got letters from the game and fish so he probly just wanted to gripe so somebody would feel bad for him lol. Good luck to ya. You deer huntin up there this year?

Yep glad I put in for that one and not the 78 tag(like wining the lottery). When did you guys get letters was that when you got your tags or was that after? I have a cow-calf for 6 I don't remember getting one. I had just assumed that the bow restrictions were the same rifle restrictions stated in the regs. So the national forest thing I already knew. Maybe only the any elk people got them.

Ya we got the letter on Sept 3 once they realized they screwed up on Sept 2nd.it only affects the guys with the type 1 tags cause every other type is off forest anyway. It sucks cause it took me 7 yrs to draw just for the chance to bowhunt then it gets all messed up the year I draw..... Were the elk talking that you have been seeing.. all that I've run into were quite as a church mouse . We spotted some huge mulies and even a big whitetail over by the bunkers and north crow this august scouting if it helps ya any.

The first weekend of bow season they making a bunch of noise I had called in a good looking 5 or 6 from what I could see it was getting a too dark and he came straight at me unfortunatley or I would have filled out my genral elk tag. Then the next night the whole creek canyon not a single sound.
The bulls were chirping a little bit and chasing each other this morning and the other bunch I seen were doing the same last night. So why don't you hunt the state and blm sections that are out there with a bow?

I tried it but there is 200 type 1 tag holders with the same idea and the 3 days I went there were atleast 2 other bow hunters blowing every elk call known to man. Those are all really small sections I got permission on some private but the bulls have all moved off for now must be on forest chasing cows which is fine start Oct 1 I can hunt rifle so it gives me a nice long gun season just need the rut to die off so the bulls start moving back onto the property I saw no less than 8 rubs yesterday but they all appear to be late Aug or early Sept so I know they will be back

Gotcha. Everyone must be up in the north part of 6 hunting because I haven't hardly seen anyone in the happy jack area. Of course I only hunt 6/60/104 during the week then head for the mountains over the weekends.
So as a first time bow hunter when do you usually see the most monster game during bow or rifle season or does just depend on the year? I've never hunted in the areas I'm hunting this year so i don't really know if its the time of year or the area.

Up in vedawoo the time I see the most animals is the middle of the week there is just too many people during the weekend. The snowies we've seen game prertty much all week as Long as you can get away from a road at least a half mile people are too lazy to even go that far lol
