Hey guys, I have been stalking this site for over a year while waiting on an opportunity to get to hunt out west.
I have access to area 24 and will be coming out the second week of Oct to hopefully get my first pronghorn.
I am mainly a duck hunter(hence the call name), but have always had a thing for pronghorns and mulies.
What little deer hunting I do here in Virginia is during our 2 week muzzleloader season and maybe 2-3 days during rifle season.
I have a 7mm which I know is a little large for pronghorn, but I didn't see spending money on another rifle for what I hope is one shot.
I am comfortable with it out to 300yds and have ordered a rangefinder to help know what distance I am shooting(not a problem in the woods of VA!)
I plan to use binoculars for glassing. Do you guys think a spotting scope is required, or just very helpful?
I've read on here about cooling down the animal as soon as possible, so I have that in my plan.
I will be driving from Virginia(26-28 hrs) and my wife will be along for us to see the country on the way back
One question; any problem in keeping the meat in a cooler for the ride home? It may be 3-5 days to work our way back.
I plan to keep the meat off the bottom of the cooler and plan to keep the water in the bottom drained.
I normally keep my deer in the fridge for a week to age back home, so thought this would be similar
Sorry for a long first post; just wanted to get a few things out there.
Thanks
