I've seen several Cub mounts. Does anyone have a Desire to shoot and Mount a Cub ? It's legal here in Idaho I know. Which is Funny because you can't shoot a MOM with cubs, but you can shoot the cubs. HUMMM ...

Anyways, I've thought about it before but I don't know if I could look at a Cub mount every day..... how about you ?

I've never thought about it, I've shot baby deer before, when I was looking for a tender one for the freezer (one of 6 a year I could shoot here in oklahoma) but I'd think a bear would be...well..different, especially if you were gonna make a mount, and have to see it every day. I vote no, unless someone can make me change my mind.

Did you have a little bit of ground shrinkage on your bear that you kilt last week??? LMAO.....

HAHA, something like that ;)

No, Uhhh not at all Beotch !!

I have shot pleanty of little bear. but never a "cub" I have kilt 2 bears that were 2 year old. a 6 and an 8 and like 3 others that I don't have the Age yet. This last one was in it's teens the F&G thought. But they were telling me someone brought in a Bear in a 5 gallon bucket. Uhhhh thats a Little bear. Even Skinned. But he wanted a Litle bear to go with another bear he hasd to mount. I've seen them and think they are COOL !! But when I look at them for a Long time I get all soft and don't think i could have one at my home. Jsut me. But i know guys do it all the time.

Looking for that little Mexican cub eh cjcj ;)

I agree though, I've seen some KICK A$$ blond cubs. Problem is as they get older they tend to start loosing the True blond and go darker. Unlike most Chicks that usually go more blond ;) hump

We have joked about.... if a HUGE Sow came in with a Cub and a couple of us were hunting to Take out the cub first because thats legal.. then with the Cub out of the Way you could kill the Sow because at that point it had no cub and would be legal per the law ;)

I suppose if they were indigensous to my locale I would get fired up about hunting them. Seeing them in New Mexico & Colorado raiding the dumpsters & strolling near civilization kinda skews my attitide about taking one. Know some warbucks$$ types who've paid the big dollah for trophy bears in AK years ago but not too keen on that either.

...not unless I catch them stealing my twinkies.

None personally Papa. That's just me...no judgement whatsoever on what others do.

The only time that I would kill a cub would be to complete like a family mount sean.. Like a sow teaching her cub how to fish or turn over a log for the grubs ,or something like that..Other than that then not if I could help it..

...do you let teddy ruxpin finish his pancakes first?:)

Papa Moose, very valid question. How many people shoot bears nowadays for their tablefare? I shoot bears because I like hunting them and I enjoy the sausage they make. For most people I think it is a trophy animal, a cub is certainly not a trophy. You could argue that a cub makes for better eating, but let's be honest, any bear meat requires proper field care followed by proper preparation in the kitchen to be considered fine eating by most people. Why go to all of that work for forty to fifty pounds of meat when you could shoot an adult and have twice that? Hunterman brings up an interesting point. To complete a family scene you would need a cub, it is just not that important to me that I would shoot a cub to complete a family scene. I would rather let that cub grow up so I can hunt it later.

While not quite cubs, I wish someone would come through my area and clean out a few young bears. There is just too many, the group eats more in an hour than I can carry in a day

I don't know that I would specifically target a "cub" however that being said I did shoot a ltttle guy early in my spot and stalk career. Small enough that I carried it by myself--- even had a guy on an ATV exclaim "What an A--hole". It's tough sometimes at a distance to get a good estimate of size.

As for the meat.... I really doubt than anyone here hunts to fill a freezer with bear meat. I hunt in the spring to get out of the house, to scout new terrain, look for new fishing spots...etc. If I kill a bear great, if not no big deal, I will bait in the fall for something to do with the kids. I will be honest I (plus family) can't stomach the meat. If any one here really likes it, please let me know as they can have any/all future kills.

I don't think I would shoot a cub. I fawn once, but that was because we needed camp meet. I would hold it against someone for shooting one. Each person hunts for their own reason or the own "trophy".
