Worst 10 states for auto-deer collisions

A guy I hunted with a few years back died, when he swerved to miss a deer. He wasn't but in his 40s. Thanksgiving weekend is a big hunting weekend here, he took his son home from hunting for Thanksgiving dinner, then headed back to hunt. About 9pm he wasn't but 20 miles from our groups camp and he swerved to miss a deer. The truck rolled and he flew out. His son had the seat belt on and survived. The son crawled out and started looking for his dad. He found him about the time another care drove up to stop and help. The dad was dead. We found out in camp the next day, the boy wanted to come to camp and tell us what happened, his mom and sister brought him to hunting camp from the hospital when he was released. Pretty sad, I'll tell you that. Every time I drove that road, I'd see the skid marks from the truck where that young dad died.

He shouldn't have swerved, I guess, plus, he should have had his seat belt on, plus, he was probably speeding some, which all stacked up against him. He died right there and his son found his body in the dark. Thank God, that other car drove up about that time, for the boys sake. He was 14 then, the son.

Pennsylvania has the highest number of accidents, according to a survey by insurer State Farm. Coming in second and third were Michigan and Illinois, followed by Ohio and Georgia. Minnesota and Virginia ranked sixth and seventh respectively, while Indiana, Texas and Wisconsin rounded out the list at eighth, ninth and tenth. With deer migrating and mating season occurring between October and December, the auto insurer says a higher number of deer are near roads this time of year.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know chit about the East Coast/Great Lakes regions but it there really a big "migration" out that way  from where to what? ...or are they all just returning back from their summer cottages? ;)

I thought all the deer were dead in PA as well? If there are no deer then how come there are so many dead ones?

It is really bad this time of year now that the pre-rut has started. Then food souces change because of harvest and weather conditions causing the deer to move toward their winter time areas.

So it is Deer Dodge Em at night.
