"World Record Found"

Hypothetical:

If you found what you believed to be a New World's Record (of any species) and had great photos of it, but didn't have a tag for it, what would you do?

Would you post the photos on an internet forum for all to see?

Would you try to sell it to a Governor's tag hunter or other high paying client?

Or would you try to keep it super quiet and not tell anyone about it ever - maybe hoping to one day draw a tag for that area?

I'm out on the selling game to the highest bidder, and I never draw crap, so I wouldn't expect that scenario to come through. I guess I'd have to show it to friends, but I don't know that I'd post photos online.

Take pics and use paint shop to scribble out all surroundings...seen that on here

Depending on what unit it is in, say maybe my NM or AZ units, I would tell some guy who does have a tag the area. Just sayin.............

I guess it would depend on my chances of drawing the tag. In a unit with 3% draw odds? I'd tell someone. In a unit with 40% draw odds? I'd cross my fingers and keep my lips sealed.

Millers got the right attitude on this one. Then maybe when that hunter harvests it we can get 18 guys around it in a photo and then maybe the picture will get published and we can get a huge window sticker for our efforts.

Depends...if I were a guide, I would definitely be selling the information. If it were me personally and it was an animal that would likely not be that big the following year, I would tell a friend. If it were an area that I did a lot of hunting myself and none of my friends that hunted the area had a permit...I wouldn't tell anyone.

Personally if it were an area I had an extremely low chance of drawing for next year and I was not currently holding a tag, I'd probably try and find someone with a tag and share the info with them, with the caveat that I get to tag along on the hunt. I think it would it be pretty cool to watch a hunt unfold along those lines for a new "world record". But no way would I sell the info, nor would I take part in 20 guys lining the hillsides with spotters for the animal.

I would guess you are to late, if it is a World Record, someone with the initials M.B. already knows about it, regardless of species.

I'd start threads on internet forums with title like "Awesome pics... coming soon" or "Big news on the way!"

I thought about you all day at work today Eli One thing that most of us don't do is guide hunters. That is your job and part of it is to scout areas and animals for clients. My first instinct is to keep it quiet or only help a buddy. You on the other hand have done this multiple times and for many years. I think most of us would have some sort of emotional attachment to the animal that we'd found. I think for you it is less that way. You're doing your job and a big animal is just a big animal and could possibly mean a big payday from a client. I'm not saying your wrong or we're right it just is different views. With that said you better not have a ginormous window sticker of freaky bucks that says "Trash Talkin" in your back window or I'll take back my opinion of you.....and please no Mossback 20 people picts.
