I recall a similar case years ago in the Black Hills. Two guys were caught with several hundred hatchery-stocked rainbow trout over their possession limit. I figured the best punishment would have been to make them eat every single one.

From the name he is ethnic Laotian, (Lowland Lao). They live on freshwater fish, snails, insects, etc. besides pork, chicken, beef. Freshwater fish are scaled and cleaned then combined with rice husks and salt in a large clay jar to ferment for a year or more. It's the national dish. In times of want the fermented fish can be eaten over rice. A little bit goes a long way. They also slice next to the vertebrate along the back of the fish and flatten them, coat with a little salt, and dry in the sun.

Here in America, besides traditional preservation methods they also use the deep freeze.

We have a terrible problem with them here in Nebraska. The Laotians, Vietnamese, etc. etc. catch white bass and whatever else when they are running at the reservoirs and sell them commercially in Denver. They get fined, pay the fine and just keep on doing it. Laws mean nothing to them. To them, fish are for eating and selling and laws don't apply. So much for trying to fit into society.
