Why Cerakote a stainles rifle?

416 stainless- the type used in firearms is martensitic and doesn't have as high amount of chromium as the 300 series stainless. It also has a higher carbon content.
It is corrosion resistant but will oxidize in wet environments.

Plus, different colors!

Not a huge fan of Cerakote due to some issues I had when it first started becoming mainstream in the firearms community. It's cheap, fast, and easy to apply in almost any color you can think of, but if it's not done correctly by a PROFESSIONAL, then it's the equivalent of glorified Rustoleum bbq paint.
And I'd NEVER Cerakote a stainless rifle, personal preference.

That is a poster child of Cerakote done nicely, but how well does it shoot with the bolt on the wrong side?

I shoot it upside down so it is on the right side.

The money I put into cerakote and stock paint would have put a pretty big dent in the cost of a new Tikka in 300 WSM but I don’t regret my decision.

Some people think it looks gooder.

If you want black and rust proof then just do salt bath nitride. Then your bore gets the benefit of increased corrosion resistance too.

When your basement drain backflows with shit water, soaking the rifle, it’ll keep everything coated in cerakote clean and easy to wipe off. Ask me how I know

I've had a few rifles, shotguns and handguns Cerakoted, I also like fluted barrels. Does it make them more valuable on the resale market? I very rarely sell a gun so I don't know. Is it necessary no, but I like it....

I like the added corrosion resistance for barrel and action but will never have a bolt cerakoted again. It was done by a very reputable smith but it was never slick enough again. I had it blasted and treated in Black T and it’s good now.

If I went through barrels faster I would not bother.

Glare. I had my .270 Win SS Criterion barrel cerakoted from the factory when I bought it since I did not want the reflective properties. The action that I screwed it onto is still bare SS, but it is bead blasted and does not have as much visible surface area
