Idaho was denied permission to land helicopters in the Frank Church in order to collar wolves. No doubt some of Ithaca's wolf hugger buddies let the forest service know that they would be challanging the decision if authority was granted. Why didn't Idaho seek permission before they took over wolf management responsibilities? That way they could have forced the feds into collaring all the packs if authority was denied.

Idaho better get a little more on the ball, if they want a wolf hunt. The wolf huggers are making them look like a bunch of half wit dopes!

BHR,
You are an idiot, there is no need for you to continually remind us of such.

It is a wilderness area, and helicopters aren't allowed to land at random. Everything must be permitted, and as such, there is no certainty. The State has always had an alternative, and as such, will continue to function and progress toward its' managment objectives of wolves.

Jose,

Jim Caswell, Idaho's administrator of the Office of Species Conservation said "It really is an unfortunate turn of events." That would lead me to believe that he didn't see this coming. Otter, Ithaca 37, Elkgunner, Marvel, now Jim Caswell. Boy you got some real pea brains in Idaho don't you!

Caswell's office's goal is to ensure endangered species become extinct. His office was created because the Fish and Game wouldn't agree with the governor. I am not surprised he wouldn't know what the Federal Laws are.

But more than 700 letters regarding the plan were sent to Intermountain Regional Forester Jack Troyer in Ogden, Utah, who oversees management of the federal wilderness area. In a statement he released Tuesday, Troyer said the number of public comments and the complexity of issues raised prompted him to wait until a more detailed analysis can be done.

"It is important to ensure the protection of wilderness while balancing the need for Idaho Fish and Game to manage populations of gray wolves," Troyer said.

Scott Phillips, a retired Forest Service employee in the central Idaho town of Hailey who wrote a letter of protest to Troyer, said the federal agency simply cannot allow an unwarranted motor activity inside the federal wilderness without doing a detailed environmental impact examination with more public comment.

"This is not a case of environmentalists raising some obscure point," said Phillips. "It's a fundamental point of law that the 1964 Wilderness Act and the 1980 Central Idaho Wilderness Act prohibit motorized incursions into wilderness unless there is someone down there with two broken legs and they need their life saved by a helicopter ride."

Caswell said the state had argued that using helicopters for research in the wilderness would be a viable exception. But he believes the Forest Service was cowed by environmental groups that charged the helicopter collaring program would aid Idaho in eliminating - not managing - wolf packs.

"The Forest Service heard from folks who are skeptical of the motives of the state, who believe the only reason we want to do this is to find the wolves so we can shoot them," he said. "That's just baloney, it's not true."

Yep, that's what Idaho is up against. Good luck in the fight against the whacko enviros.

???Where ever did you see or hear this???

You will have to come up with more than off the cuff remarks to prove this one....

I would bet it's another attempt at putting names and tags on people that don't rightly belong to them...

If you want any credibility for your cut and pastes, you need to hold a little closer to the truth... ;)

More lame lawyer lingo from Jose. What team do you play for anyway? The Hunters, or Ithaca's team?

Guess you couldn't answer the question, kind of shows how little you know about how are public lands are regulated and managed. Maybe you shouldn't comment on these topics when you don't have a clue.

You want, or require answers from some one when you can't do the same???

Talk about a one sided conversation....

Sounds like some of the "inquisition" hearings going on with the judges... ;)

It’s not working there, it won’t work here… :p

Jose,

Public lands are managed (or kept from being managed depending on how you look at it) by a bunch of tree hugger kook enviro lawyers. Good luck with your wolf season.

Jose,

I never said we should or shouldn't. I don't live in Idaho, so whether or not you guys have any elk to hunt in the years to come is not much of a concern. Tone, Ithaca, and Hfool do live in Idaho and were in favor of it though.

Jose,

If the Idaho people want to land helicopters in the Frank Church to collar wolves, I'm not going to make a big deal about it, and try to stop them. If they want to use my federal dollars to do it, well that could be different. They should have had the feds do it BEFORE they took over management. That would have been the smart thing to do. As it is now the wolf huggers have done a good job branding all Idahoans as wolf haters not worthy of being trusted with the welfare of their treasured mutts.

Good luck with yor wolf hunt!
